It is 2026 I am 100% trackball-pilled. They've replaced all of my mice (which is technically true because I only used one mouse) and tbh I don't think I'm going back any time soon. At least not full-time. Gotta keep a regular one around to flirt with, you know? ABF (Always Be Flirtin')

Our thorough look at HOLLOW KNIGHT is out now! Sprawling lore, pristine mechanics, music both effervescent and feral...and a little guy who's cute as a button. No burying the lede here: this game is phenomenal.

Hope you love the show today. Ft. co-host @nostalgiumpod.bsky.social . Links below!⬇️

These ingrained language rules always amaze me. Another one that native English speakers know (and is a term I had to look up, lol) is ablaut reduplication. Zig-zag not zag-zig, handy-dandy and not dandy-handy, etc.

Now if only knowing this stuff could make me talk good on mic...
In English, adjectives seem to follow a specific order:

opinion - size - age - shape - color - origin - material - purpose - noun

We’re steeped in the pattern from birth, and apply it effortlessly.

In an effort to write more on the show I put up a Patreon poll (for paid + free members!) to see what folks want to hear about. The poll winner is one that I don't hear a lot of "serious" discussion around; I've been wanting to try my hand at doing exactly that.

Can't wait to revisit Stellar Blade!

I'm playing 1000xRESIST for the third time to prepare for a few upcoming projects. I'm reminded all over again how exciting and impactful interdisciplinary works can be. It's theatrical (appropriately, lol), it's operatic, it's raw, it's a smidge goofy (perfect amount).

Just super good.

Aaron was kind enough to let me write about one of my favorite games of 2025! It was an honor to be included, thank you Aaron.

Side note: This year, I will be trying my hand at analysis essays both on the podcast and off. I've wanted to for *years*. Been too nervous...still am. Excited to try!

NEW Episode!

Vampire Hunter D!

With Rick from @pixelprojectradio.bsky.social!

Did you ever ask your parents to buy you a game because it was based on an IP you like or the cover art? You knew nothing about it, just that it looked cool?

That's basically what Shane did here.

He's very sorry.

A game that completely surprised me and became an all-time favorite. A game that appealed to both the musician and fighting game fan in me with a "your only competition is yourself" approach to technique. A game with an incredible amount of heart.

If you haven't played Celeste yet...get to it!
Celeste is 8 years old wow

Recording our Hollow Knight episode today. I'm more fond of the OST each time I listen. Larkin's use of orchestration for color is *very* good. And on a less-serious-but-I'm-also-not-kidding note, lots of my thoughts jotted down say "this is the X motif but for perverts (i.e. morphed/distorted)"

"this piano book introduces 'Tuner,' the sister whose function...because pianos need to be..." ...hm, not that one

"6 to 1? More like ii to V to I" ...no, that's no good

"There is a chord that sustains and sustains and..."

...I could use joke lessons from BBF. Just buy the game, it's brilliant
Reminder that we're on sale for our biggest discount yet: 35% off!

To celebrate, we've released Piano Book Vol. 4 WOOHOOOOOO

Please feast your eyes on Her (Healer).......

It's January! You can still reflect on 2025! There are no laws against it!

I played some fantastic games in 2025. I learned that COE 33 really is that good, I discovered a new favorite JRPG series, and I found a new top 5 of all time that I think is a masterpiece. Check it out wherever you listen!
It's time to look back on 2025 - it's the annual Games "In" The Year! Join me as I talk about ten games that I played during 2025 — released that year or not — and why they meant so much to me. It's part analysis, part personal essay, 100% a good listen. THANK YOU for a great year!
