Nice to see things ramping up on this app. Mildly curious how this place picks up the pieces of what's left on the "other site."

As for me, I tend to post about cinema, horror games, apocalyptic ephemera etc. etc.

Also my cats, and occasional snapshots of life in the PNW.

Glad you're here.

yes one of my city’s largest city parks is named after the DUNE novels.

yes we live in the shadow of a giant, active volcano that could erupt any time and destroy us all. (people climb it for fun)

yes we have a highly developed cryptid culture, land and sea.

I swear to god people’s brains melt from other corners of the country when they actually see what life is like up here in the PNW.

It’s not all frog suits and voodoo donuts, but damn it’s working for most of us up here or from here.

It is very important to make as legible as possible as often as possible that various administration administration officials are either straight-up delusional or lying through their teeth, every single day

it’s like 50% of that movie, which is so often the case for great soundtracks. Music, hell yeah.

endlessly compelling gameplay in this game (and its sequel).

Pretty sure you can play it on an iPhone nowadays?

XCOM: Enemy Unknown was released 13 years ago today.

I spent a few nights fighting the alien invaders. 😌

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

I gotta hand it to whatever advertising firm Informa hired to make these, there really is something almost poetic about GDC's advertising being "an AI-looking depiction of an industry staple being destroyed with no clear elaboration of what comes after." Masterclass in unintentionally nailing it.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

We are capable, and even more-capable united as a region.

If the dismantling can go in one direction — chaos, austerity, and despair, surely it can go in another, regionally?
