I've had a longstanding weakness for crunchy snacks, which, with age and maturity, I defeated by simply not bringing them in the house.
Just saw a post bitching about the grossness of turkey&dressing flavoured potato chips and I'm about to go out and kill a whole bag of them so thanks for that.

We need to understand the NYT as an epistemological enemy. Not an imperfect institution, but an active bad actor. Its editorial choices cause widespread, real-world harm.
The NYT definitely made a choice not to add “without evidence” to this headline.

nothing will fix what ails America until there is accountability for elites
Bolsonaro behind bars is a reminder: democracies survive when they stop letting criminals play government.

If America's elites gave a shit about all that wisdom-of-the-founders stuff they want us to believe, this would be Trump's fate already. The end of US democracy lies in unaccountability.

Maybe the next generation will set its sights on solving systemic problems instead of “My burrito is at a restaurant, but I’m all cozy here so, can a guy with a medical degree from another country bring it to me.” We’ve got that covered, and then some.

Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.
One of the bragging rights that the US ed system had in the 20th century is that we didn't have education tracks. Essentially, any kid could go to a CC or state school & major in whatever they wanted to (obviously an oversimplification). I fear this aspect of the American dream is dying.

Holiday hot take, especially as an American in the UK, where nobody gives a shit about turkey:

Turkey tastes better than chicken. If you don't like turkey, it may be an issue of cooking skills.

The NYT is a ragebait troll farm. This is the business model they have chosen, at least for this stretch of history. There is only one rationale response. I’m sorry, but we gotta muzzle the gray lady.

I don't consider myself a clothes guy at all (and I'm sure nobody else does, either) and yet I am always fascinated by Derek's deep-dive threads; they make me want to care about dressing more. At least, temporarily.
Fall is here and many of you may be shopping for an overcoat.

Let me show what you can get as you move up the price ladder. 🧵
Here are four overcoats.

— Which do you think is the most expensive?
— Which do you think is the least expensive?
— Which do you think provides the best value?

Answer below. Tomorrow, I will show what you get as you climb up the price ladder for overcoats.

So they didn’t like the ad. Let’s just post Reagan’s 5 min speech against tariffs as it appears on YouTube.

Over and over. On all platforms (some of y’all are still on X).

This is a good thread on its own terms but I'm fascinated by the replies that have misunderstood it, mostly in reaction to "trained performer."
Zohran Mamdani is a trained performer who has an extremely disciplined and laser-focused ability to recite on-message talking points in response to any question, and yet voters overwhelming praise him as being especially "authentic" compared to other politicians. There's a lesson here!

I have just learned that there's a huge attribution controversy attached to Bach's* Toccata and Fugue in D minor, the famous spooky organ piece we all associate with Dracula and Captain Nemo, etc. Not published till the 1830's! I had no idea! 🤯 Do classical music nerds all know this?

My addition to the medbed discourse, as funny as it is that people believe such crazy things, is that my mother refused
conventional treatment for a very treatable cancer until it was far too late, because she was Q-pilled and was holding out for the medbeds.

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

When you publish a website that posts the names and photos of scholars who have written or said things you disagree with and encourage people to surveil and harass them, you are not, in fact, a “free speech” organization.
It is quite simply dishonest to describe TPUSA as a “free speech” organization and not even mention the “Professor Watchlist,” as NPR just did. Reporting on a crime does not entail adopting the victim’s views.
