“I got into blues in my late teens. I knew about Robert Johnson from the bands that covered him. And when I heard him, I thought it was OK. Then I heard Son House’s a cappella song “Grinning in Your Face” [from the 1965 Columbia album Father of Folk Blues]. That was a transformative moment. There’s nothing there, just that voice. And what he was singing made so much sense to me.”

Like I could barely get through my morning shower now I'm sitting here reading through hundreds of angry comments about a work decision I didn't make and have no control over, beyond sharing those comments with the people who did make that decision, which I'm currently working on doing

The mental gymnastics of AI supporters saying AI "removes human bias" or is "better than humans" when it's humans who created the damn thing in the first place and human data that trained it. It's also humans funding and allocating resources to it.

I've heard the same thing, it's really concerning especially with so many companies using ATS now and there being no real audit system in place, I've been recommending my job hunting friends apply to smaller companies over bigger ones because smaller companies are less likely to use ATS 😩

Instead of a Switch 2, I decided to treat myself to the Zelda OLED that I've always wanted 😇

Shoutout to my 6th grade teacher for the trauma he inflicted on me when he dumped out my desk, found my diary, and read it out loud to the entire class. I'm almost 33 years old and still get traumatic flashbacks from that day. 😩

When I have the money and free time I really want to learn how to play the drums so I can be a one-person band like Wolfgang Van Halen

Thinking about my first ever run through Pokémon Silver at age 8 where I beat the entire game (including the Elite Four) by only using Typhlosion. I knew I could use other Pokémon, I just didn't want to play the game that way because it felt too easy to have 6 Pokémon to swap between.

Too many games for whom? The average gamer can't afford to buy more than a handful of games a month, and don't have the time to play most of them because they're busy working. Not to mention, we're treating "games" as a monolith instead of noting the differences in genre, platform, audience, etc.

I'm biased, but Nightdive really are the masters of remasters. I'm honored to get to work with some of the most talented people in the industry.

I also don't have the free time in my current role to play games that aren't from my company. And don't get me wrong, I love what my company releases. But... I rarely get to play games just for me, and when I do, I often don't want to because it doesn't feel fun. Depression will do that, I guess.

When I was a games journalist, I had the free time to play new releases and talk about them with friends. Since I was laid off from journalism in 2023, I stopped playing games almost entirely. As a writer, it broke me to be forced away from journalism in a way I've never truly recovered from.
