The caption for this image reads "upper panel with dragon icon symbolising all tetrapod" but this is incorrect. That is either a wyvern (with two wings and two legs) or it is not a tetrapod (6 limbs).

Crossbills love spruce and pine seeds. In the winter, when the trees are loaded with cones, flocks of crossbills will sometimes arrive in our area.
This male White-winged Crossbill has plucked a spruce cone and is very focused on getting out all the seeds!

I spotted this ruby-crowned kinglet (Corthylio calendula) flittering through the brush in Georgia. I think there were several nearby. I was trying to sneak up on some water birds when this one appeared fairly close—unbothered, curious, and perfectly timed.

This yellow-rumped warbler (Setophaga coronata) stared straight at me—disapprovingly, I suspect. I’ve photographed this species a few times before, but never from this angle. Judging by the plumage, I believe this one’s a female.

Your mind is conditioned to nature on TV with music as a background. So when you finally see them close up, you kind of expect a fanfare of trumpets, but the silence is deafening
