I always thought it was weird that a not-insignificant segment of self-proclaimed Star Wars fans would so eagerly put in money and effort to cosplay as the Empire. The Stormtroopers, no less.

But I always picture them when I see ICE running around kidnapping people on television.

I feel like political cartoons are either too obvious or too opaque, and there is no in-between.

"What can Democrats actually do?"

- Vote against funding for ICE and DHS

- State that any ICE officers who commit crimes under Trump will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law

- Encourage cities and states to refuse to cooperate with ICE

- Explain ICE is part of Trump's tyranny

Y’all can take this and do what you will with it. I wanted to make the pick a bullet but I figured that was too far.

For those who can, here are links to donate directly to local efforts on the ground resisting ICE's terrorizing of Minneapolis. Let me know what you donated to where, and I'll match it until I get a panicked call from my bank!

This time a year ago Los Angeles was in the midst of one of the worst firestorms on record.

Somehow 2026 feels like it's off to a worse start? Seriously, what the actual HELL is happening?

Was at the movies today and saw a commercial before my film from a conservation charity asking us to stand with the jaguar.

This will sound far more crass, more defeatist and cynical than I want, but we're ALREADY standing with Ukraine. And Gaza. And Minnesota. Immigrants in general. Iran, now.

It's way down the list of things to worry about right now, for sure. So imagine my surprise when I saw a headline reminding me that there is an Olympics coming up soon in Milan.

I *love* the Olympics. ESPECIALLY the Winter Games. And...it really feels quite bullshit to get excited for it this~

I feel like if you're somehow, in some fashion, shocked, appalled, aghast at the comments the fucking Cheeto made about the Reiners' tragic deaths, you have somehow not been paying attention.

Of course he was going to say something insulting, crass, unhinged, and vile about a person who had the~

I'm catching up on sex scandal gossip regarding horrible or horrible-adjacent political people and no, I shall *not* be googling what THAT word means. This Prestige Millennial will live happily in blissful ignorance.

The rhetorical questions abound...

How the hell do you go on playing a football game after one of your players stabs two of your OTHER players that morning? Like, how the hell do you do that?

Now, how do you ask 18-22 year olds to do that? Play a GAME?

I would just like to point out, for the record, that the only creative with a spotless film resume died young from lung cancer before his fifth film released. Everyone has a few stinkers. Take a breath. Go watch another movie and cleanse the palate.

(It's John Cazale, btw. RIP Fredo.)

how tf do you succinctly explain what a casserole is to a non-American?

it’s…a big baked food dish cooked in a casserole dish.

Admittedly, I'm talking about degrees of success here, but if you want to drill into avoiding flat failure and instead deploy success at a cost (ie. "ok you do it BUT...") I really, REALLY recommend this excellent blog post by @rdonoghue.bsky.social on risks.

For the curious, this is my favorite b&w photo from that trip, and it makes me want to experiment with underexposure more as this should not have come out given how dark it was and I had zero shutter speed or aperture control with the Olympus Superzoom. I have no idea what the camera had to do here.
