I just heard Nick Lowe's "Cruel to be Kind" and spent the whole time I was listening to Spacehog's "Cruel to be Kind".

Last weekend I got my 25th game of the Fellowship of the Ring trick-taking game in. That's my 122nd quarter!

My 'Lifetime' Quarters
This weekend I pushed two games up to the 25-plays mark, and I figured, why not commemorate all the games I've logged 25 plays of? "Lifetime" is in quotes because there are many games I've played befo...

Watched Alice in Wonderland (1951) with the kids last night. I know in later years it became popular with college students for its psychedelic imagery. When it was being made, was there any connection between its imagery style and any drugs, whether intentional or incidental?

Just started reading Day of the Triffids, and I'm impressed by the strong postapocalyptic writing for something from 1951. The quickness with how polite society instantly breaks down, not even from a mass death, but from mass blindness, is both horrifying and believable.

I want to be able to appreciate jazz better, but it's really hard for me to engage with, beyond the most surface level. A lot of instrumental music kind of glides on past me. Ellington, Davis, Monk, Parker, Coltrane, you name it. I don't dislike it but I don't have anything to latch onto.

I still find it hard to believe anyone ever liked Animal Collective.

My game Aetherspire debuts at Pax Unplugged in a few weeks! If you're inclined to check it out and (if you like what you see) give it a thumb on this BGG preview list, I'd be much obliged! boardgamegeek.com/geekpreview/...

My 2006 playlist has been serving me well. Having a tough time deciding on my favorite album so far between Muse's Black Holes & Revelations, The Decemberists' The Crane Wife, mewithoutYou's Brother Sister, and Silversun Pickups' Carnavas.

I showed my wife the first episode of 2006's Heroes the other night, expecting that with all these disconnected plot lines that it wouldn't really connect with her and it would be a one-and-done. She was so hooked we watched another, and she wanted a third but it was well past midnight.

Which of these 2006 games that I own would you most want to play?

Thurn and Taxis
Yspahan
Taluva
Blue Moon City
Pillars of the Earth
Neuroshima Hex
Drakon

(The correct '06 game is Through the Ages, which is too obvious so has to be excluded.)

I'm gearing up for a 2006 celebration next week, and how come all the best-album-of-the-year lists ignore what I was listening to at the time as a 19-year-old? Are you trying to tell me that AFI, Breaking Benjamin and Skillet are *not* the height of artistic expression?

There are like a dozen NFL teams that actually wear dark blue. Why are the Chargers trying to be another one? Is it trying to balance out Sunday's banana-yellows?

Lots to look forward to at Pax Unplugged - the first con featuring my biggest published game Aetherspire; a pitch I'm making for my game 0.7734 - but I'm also really looking forward to the indie night market! Excited to see what weird genius hidden gems you've all made!

I own a few games I haven't played in a decade...

- Bang is just superseded in every way by later games
- Tragedy Looper requires preparation and focus
- Graenaland is a longer economic game but it's quite cool
- Homesteaders and Maharaja are tough sells to get to the table from theme descriptions

I’m thrilled with Cleveland’s win today. I know there are Browns fans who will be upset that this delays Stefanski’s firing, or ruins draft position, or sidelines Sanders, or whatever else, but that’s just Browns fans being unable to handle any positivity or joy.

You know how you know something is yours? You customize its appearance, its colors, tweak it until it's perfect and fits how you like to work & use it; and then you don't change a thing about it for years and are happy.

Listening to a lot of 1965 albums this week and there are just so many contemporaneous covers of hit songs.

Sonny & Cher performing Unchained Melody
The Supremes performing Yesterday
Herb Alpert performing Love Potion No. 9
The Byrds with multiple Dylan songs
etc

And that's just then-current stuff

I'm making a history of cooperative games for potentially making into a YouTube video or set of videos.

I've written over 10,000 words and only just now reached Pandemic.

That's like an hour and a half talking about obscurities and technicalities that have little bearing on modern gaming. Love it.

I regularly find it so difficult to shift myself into productivity mode, even for things I do (or should) care about. My actual paying job, yes, but also doing game design, home projects, or anything. I tend to need some firm deadlines, someone who will make sure I'm moving forward, accountability.

Today's a bad day to do anything besides drink tea, eat snacks, and play games. Unfortunately, there's been this "work day" thing in the way, which I firmly disagree with.
