Worth mentioning the great scene in Dracula A.D. 1972, when Peter Cushing as Van Helsing fills an ashtray with butts as he struggles to figure out the connection between Alucard and Dracula.
A picture of desktop, with a hand holding a diagram created from two words - “DRACULA” along the top, “ALUCARD” along the bottom. A line connects each letter in DRACULA to its corresponding letter in ALUCARD.

I could never get past 5K but admire those who do, and finishing at all is pretty remarkable to me!

I had a coworker who ran it, we asked him about it that Monday morning. “It went well. I achieved a personal record.”

Oh?

“I ate an entire Giordano’s stuff crust pizza by myself in one sitting afterward.”

…that’s it, that’s the review. I had a weird incoherent dislike of the bruschetta, the restaurant sucks.

There’s a whole class of Letterboxd reviewers who sound just like that, except with movies.

I can’t remember when I became thoroughly disgusted with Yelp and swore not to look. Dislike a restaurant all you want, but there’s a whole class of person who has the most random ass gripe, ones peculiar to themselves and their miserable moment, and they want an audience for it….

In addition to the uniquely non-human perspective that moves this story along, health as the thing that anchors the horror is a big theme, and is handled in a very direct way that reminds me of Todd Haynes’ Safe. Impressive to see a movie balance both themes as well as it does.

Ignore all the nerds who think Letterboxd is Yelp but for movies, this is good.
Movie poster for Good Boy. (A soiled hand is seen reaching for a retriever dog - mood befits a horror movie.)

Totally. It felt like horror from the pov of a dog - and of course it was - but it really got into some serious, thoughtful space about wellness. And pet ownership! You can lie and deflect with your siblings, but your dog ain’t having that.

Next up, cotton batting as cob webs: I don’t know man, but also if you are using the fluorescent orange or green kind, what the hell kinda cobwebs do you have in your world?

Not sure how I feel about the Halloween displays I see that use yellow crime scene tape.

I see the googly-eyed goblin there, seems unlikely the PD would just seal him off like that, but I’m not really familiar with procedure when dealing with malignant supernatural beings tbh

“Is this what you want?”

Fargo - the show, not so much the movie - pokes subtly into American politics by exploring fictional, but plausible stories where regular Americans with workaday anxieties scratch the violence below the surface of their lives.

I’ve been thinking about this scene a lot

…and my side of the family, 5 siblings 29 years apart, aren’t having that shit.

Cousin isn’t a raging M*GA loon, more of what I call an affable oaf. Friendly, good conversationalist as he says the most atrocious crap.

We’ve reached the “bite the frog” stage, and a some people don’t want to bite the frog, they want to stay silent, or carry on in bad faith….

One bridge burned today (a cousin) over… you know.

Not crowing or anything, family conflict isn’t a good thing but sorry, that’s how it has to be, I guess.

Johnny Cash - In Your Mind. From the Dead Man Walking soundtrack, though I don’t think you hear it, or any of the other songs on the album really, in the movie.

My early 30s were a bit of a mess, which I got through. This song got me through some spells.
