Bluesky discourse appreciator. Drop me some of your best discourse. (Mostly movies and music from me.)

AI memes are tacky AF

What’s up Bluesky?

Listen, I have this obsession I bring up about every two years, so I should probably break it in over here.

Specifically, that in Reality Bites, for a second we see Ethan Hawke’s character in a diner just casually reading Martin Heidegger’s Being and Time
“Thyme is the weakest pizza seasoning. Not that it’s bad, it’s just… I’m eating this margherita pizza, and the thyme just isn’t of the same caliber as the fresh basil leaves. That’s my only criticism.”

- Quentin Tarantino, probably.

Anyway - directors with 10 feature films, most of them solid - nursing most likely dumb grudges, then telling on themselves about it, because they have a platform to give vent to that stupid little itch, embarrassing themselves. They are just like us, aren’t they? (Maybe not.)

To the woman walking out of the Davis Theatre screening of Crimson Peak last night saying “I knew everything that was going to happen, but it was beautiful to look at.” What the hell kind of twisted Gothic Horror Re-envisioned By Guillermo del Toro sixth sense do you have?

Insightful piece for anyone who has ever felt an uncanny connection between current U.S. politics and the fiction of #PhilipKDick , by Jeff Hewitt
Reappraisal: Philip K. Dick | Dispatches Magazine
“Like Nixon, Dick’s views were shaped by the Cold War... Few of his contemporaries managed such razor-sharp satire of the times.” —Jeff Hewitt

I’m not alone in this opinion, yay!

No disrespect for Goodfellas at all; I just think Casino checks a box or two more of things that make a movie great.
Scorsese hot take: I think CASINO is a better movie than GOODFELLAS. Ace Rothstein is a more interesting character, and the merging of the "legal" and "illegal" businesses of Vegas create a more colorful world.

Had an issue with a UPS delivery that required talking to a human, which of course they make it almost impossible to do: you have to give gibberish responses to “trick” the voice prompt menu to put you through. Of course Philip K Dick predicted this in the 1950s

Well, getting together with family is great (no irony or sarcasm intended), but based on my observations from at least a couple of airport gates, I speak for quite a few of us when I say: that holds as long as there is an end date to the holiday reunion. 🙏

My beef with insomnia is I can’t bring myself to resign myself to it and do cool stuff… I don’t catch up on any good reading or movies. I’d rather just lie there and futilely wish I could just go to sleep.

Me, re-screaming into the indifferent void:

“See, Indifferent Void, see??? See what I was talking about???”
The proliferation of slick prognosticators finding an eager audience with investors makes the current AI buzz feel an awful lot like the dotcom bubble to anyone who lives through it. I give it a year before it all crashes.
