Ran my face through the novelty gender-swap filter on FaceApp set to “masculine” a bunch of times. Think it came out great.

This book wot I wrote is mostly about experimental music in the late 20th/early 21st century, but it's accidentally also a time capsule of cultural preoccupations between 1989 and 2016.

I didn’t know Reg Bloor was running a Kickstarter campaign to fund an important Glenn Branca archival recording with Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo in the band until Robert Fripp (!!) shared the news on Facebook. Get yourself a piece of the action here. www.kickstarter.com/projects/reg...

You know when you have a load of pressing deadlines on your desk, but your brane wakes you up at 5am and says No we absolutely have to think about this instead, and it makes some excellent points, but couldn't you have done this later, brane? Well, that. Good morning everyone.

there are 4 types of guys online. No exceptions.
The Swiss got rock’n’roll after it had been filtered through the rest of Europe so its version was brilliant, exaggerated and wrong. A sincere pastiche of the original.

I'm sure all of you are waiting on tenterhooks for today's Purposeful Listening, but I'm afraid you need to hold on a little more - this week got away from me a bit. (But the Antti Tolvi recording I'm writing about is also long and involves lots of waiting, so I guess it's thematically appropriate.)

Confession: I was just a shade too young for Psychocandy when it came out. So I'd read lots of discourse by the time before I finally heard it, around 94/95. I was expecting a proper avant-garde noise classic, and what I got was the Beach Boys through a fuzzbox.
Four decades back a major label released a debut album that sounded like almost nothing on earth while still sounding incredibly familiar. Our man in San Francisco Ned Raggett takes stock of it all

Happy Birthday to the JAMC's Psychocandy, which turns 40 today!
