Coming across this while still being up at 5am for no good reason sure makes me feel some type of way 🙈
New ADHD study recently dropped, ~75% of ADHD folks have delayed sleep cycle syndrome, insomnia, and/or melatonin issues.

Not really an unknown to many ADHD and adjacent folks, but glad we're getting more data.

More on this later, but good stuff:

I really dislike the "angry fans" angle tbh. This is more like everyone who's work's been stole for the Sloppificator 2000, everyone who gives a single shit about the environment. Everyone who's livliehood is threatened by overzealous CEO's that gulped down too much of the Altman Kool Aid.

On top of literally everything that's fucked with Al, one of the things I most hate about it is that it ruined one of the last bits of real joy and whimsy we had left in this fucked up place: Funny animal videos. When I see one now, all I do is try to figure out if its slop. This shit sucks so much.

“Here’s your meal, full of delicious lead” I don’t want it. No thank you. “Well, what about if we just use lead in the cooking process? You can’t even taste the lead in the final meal” I’m leaving. “You’re being childish. Soon everyone will be cooking with lead” have you fucking listened to yourself

Look man I don’t think the people being poisoned by data centers really care if you remove the generated assets before shipping, and I don’t really care if you “only” use the machine that stole my shit and convinced teens to off themselves for internal PowerPoints.

Cool motive. Still bullshit tho.

Again I say: how fucking interesting that remote work technology is bad and not worth adopting despite all research pointing to productivity gains, but genAI which offers NOTHING is so important to adopt and force on people who have no use for it despite all the horrible things genAI does

Apart from how stupid and shortsighted a decision this is, I don't think Disney is ready for the unimaginable amounts of porn this will result in. Just gobs and gobs of the weirdest, most hardcore Mickey and friends fuck-slop. With how detached execs are, I'd be surprised if this is on their radar.

Disney says that it will "thoughtfully and responsibly extend" its storytelling through generative AI use with a $1 billion deal in OpenAI that will license 200 of its characters including Mickey Mouse, Luke Skywalker, Captain America and Elsa. https://bit.ly/4s6IGL8

Been doing a lot of research into early humans and hominids recently and it's very humbling, and an emotion I can't name, to think about the vast stretch of time in which we were just living, learning, expanding in great pulses and leaps, unfathomable eons of scraping meaning into the earth /

I considered writing a long carefully constructed argument laying out the harms and limitations of AI, but instead I wrote about being a hater. Only humans can be haters.

Seeing genAl used in otherwise well-crafted Indie games is SO sad to me. A badly photoshopped in-game bookcover or janky TV commercial will always have infinitely more personality than using Al slop. More than it just making me sad though, it makes me suspicious of every element of a game. It sucks.

I know TGAs are a shitshow that doesn't mean anything but the fact that CO:E33 is nominated in two INDIE categories tells you everything about the state of the industry you need to know. I love that game but if *this* is what players expect an indie production to look like now, that's a problem.

This! Writing a prompt does NOT "make you a musician". All it does is make you a product for corps selling subscriptions to ppl who believe that it does. Al is not "democratising art" or making it "accessible". Al corps want ppl to, instead of saving for an instrument, give that money to them.
All AI music does is devalue the work done by human artists. It’s not accessibility, it’s exploitation. We need real protections for artists against AI!

BTW — even if you had access to this AI startup as a child, you still wouldn’t know how to make music.

one of the coolest things about ChatGPT is how you can actually just never use it. you can fill your whole entire life with simply not once using it. it's incredible.
