TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

Also. Here’s a pink snail that dances around your face that you didn’t ask for. We didn’t give you agency over your profile decoration because we think people really don’t like to make choices about how they present them selves to strangers and friends.

Bang up job #discord lol
Love Discord being like "bro you didnt complete any quests this year" yeah man I dont know what those are and I'm working really hard not to have to learn

They don’t want you to know this, BUT if you don’t like a piece of candy in an assortment you don’t have to eat it.

Lemon Starbursts? - throw em out.

Yellow Sour Patch Kids? - in the bin.

Even your Regular Kids - don’t like one? Drop him off at the bus stop.

Everyone is getting upset about the data centers. They pollute a lot and use a lot of energy and will eventually be very ugly/huge vacant buildings. And I understand being mad about that. Until you consider the state of the lazer tag industry at this moment, and how much help that sector needs.

Instead of “two trains” math problems they should have kids solving Thanksgiving oven sharing math problems. Give them something they’ll use.

Feeling nostalgic for that brief moment in my life when I thought everyone around me might die from a once in a century plague, and I reacted by asking strangers to risk their lives to bring meatballs to my house in the middle of the night.

I would also wipe my groceries with a bleach solution.

#onthisday in 1820, the Essex whaling ship was sunk by a sperm whale 2,000 miles from land. The story inspired Melville; Nathaniel Philbrick's prize winning non-fiction account, In the Heart of the Sea, was adapted by Ron Howard 10 years ago. Below, a news account.

My buddy forgot his backpack and we had to double back a few miles. I wish I was the Dad who just said:

“Mistakes happen. Try not to make it a habit, bud.”

Instead I am the Dad who says

“[5 min of uncomfortable silence]…Mistakes happen. Try not to make it a habit, bud.”

Great resources in this list!
And I'd like to add that Data Management in Large-Scale Education Research (an open access book that also addresses data management specifically for researchers) is another good one to check out! 😊

I was impressed w/the thoughtful design of this meta-analysis of teacher professional development intervention effects on student achievement. Overall effect was pretty small (Hedges g = .09); the moderators suggest the effect was present only in optimal conditions. #PsychSciSky #AcademicSky #EduSky

I really need to get to bed, but I just poked my head out the back door again. This is the view from my deck. All of this is looking south. When the geomagnetic storms are like this, the oval overshoots me and stretches into the US, which is why so many are seeing it tonight. #aurora
