In The Netherlands on holiday, and the second day with the hire car. Getting waves from lots of cyclists. Today one of them even used all five fingers when they waved so I think I’m getting the hang of things here.

I used to be Head of Science at a secondary school. People would always launch in to their favourite science facts with enthusiasm.

I’m now a Head of Maths, and people just look at me like I’m weird and try to change the conversation.
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

Gong out on a second strike day tomorrow. Qld government has not only offered a below-inflation pay rise during a teacher crisis, they have failed to address workload and safety issues for teachers and school leaders. Not good enough.

Can someone tell him he doesn’t need a computer for this? He can just give his money to poor people.

"In 10-20 years work Will be optional"

It's International Men's Day, so a quick reminder that if you have testicles give 'em a good fondle every so often to check for any changes in things like size, texture, or the ability to spot other ships at thirty nautical miles.

I’m sorry? SNAP vouchers are physical vouchers? Pieces of paper? Not bank deposits? And no change given?

Is it possible to design a 21st century welfare scheme that is less efficient?
New — While some states have received SNAP benefits for November and USDA is supposedly pushing through all federal payments soon, that doesn’t erase the psychological terror of the last few weeks.

I spoke with 20+ SNAP recipients in 16 states about preparing for a possible future with no food:
The voices of SNAP
Recipients have become political pawns. They explained, in their own words, what Trump withholding funds has been like.

This has the potential to impact international routes if this continues, and Covid showed us how long that can take to correct.

Cripes. It’s bad enough to try and use the situation as a political tool, but to use the courts to deliberately make people’s lives worse as a political tool is just abysmal.
