Hahaha omg it's nerdy, I played a fairly long solo game of TOR using the Strider rules (which are really good) and decided I wanted to try adapting one quest from that into an adventure as an exercise (I've been trying out adventure writing a little this year, something I haven't really done before)

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Don't know what point I'm making, it's not like I will defend Far Cry 5 as rhetorically coherent in any particular way. Far Cry 5 asks you to spend dozens of hours murdering Christo-Fascists. They have the serial numbers filed off so there's some deniability that they're Christo-Fascists but I don't think any USAmerican didn't understand who they were. Playing that as a trans woman was very interesting.

In some ways this is an alignment with an underlying reality, because it's very hard for AAA action games to have coherent progressive messages, being products of late capitalism, but they have sometimes created interesting canvases for player interpretation.
