But there’s also just so many people in the world. I have so many options on who I spend my time with, that being inconsiderate and rude can be self isolating. Because you don’t owe me kindness, and I don’t owe you my time. I need people to choose both. Choosing the work of kindness is a thing

So it’s not free, and it’s not as easy for one person as it is for another, but it’s still worth attempting. It’s worth trying because it puts more good into the world, and it’s worth trying because it creates bonds.

We have to give ourselves and each other grace, when we can. . .

When we say 'Kindness is Free', there's generally a good spirit behind that, but social encounters are effort. Being kind and considerate takes more work when you are struggling. There is a type of performative generosity that we often expect from each other, and that is more exhausting for some
