As discord suffers a massive data breach of people's personal data and ID documents congrats to the UK Government for bringing in the undercooked law that made it absolutely inevitable this would happen, repeatedly

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

There's a fascinating case study to be done on the different strategies of Macron and Sánchez. Both emerged, against the odds, from centrist milieux in the mid-2010s to lead their countries since 2017/18. But their fates are totally different.

Allied to this – stop asking candidates to state their current salary. It tells you absolutely nothing about their ability to do the job.

📣 Germany's close to reversing its opposition to mass surveillance & private message scanning, & backing the Chat Control bill. This could end private comms-& Signal-in the EU.

Time's short and they're counting on obscurity: please let German politicians know how horrifying their reversal would be.

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

I'm waiting for a hospital appt at a clinic over-running by "up to an hour", so have the leisure to break this down. (sorry)

Unlike passports and drivers licenses, this will be free to obtain - but you will need a smartphone, which is not free.

Just got home after a fantastic day at MuseumsCamp filled with engaging discussions and plenty of ideas. It’s unusual to come away from a conference feeling energised rather than exhausted. And lovely to meet so many new people / bsky people irl!

A US judge just threw out Trump's case against the NYT with the most sarcastic parenthesis I've ever seen.

(Trump's lawyers can try again.)
questauthority.bsky.social
tl:dr - Judge just told Trump "I ain't reading all that shit, go try again."

The order starts with the phrase "As every member of the bar of every federal court knows (or is presumed to know)..."
As every member of the bar of every federal court knows (or is presumed to
know), Rule 8(a), Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, requires that a complaint include
“a short and plain statement of the claim showing that the pleader is entitled to relief.” Rule 8(e)(1) helpfully adds that “[e]ach averment of a pleading shall be simple,
concise, and direct.” Some pleadings are necessarily longer than others. The difference likely depends on the number of parties and claims, the complexity of the governing facts, and the duration and scope of pertinent events. But both a shorter pleading and a longer pleading must comprise “simple, concise, and direct” allegations
that offer a “short and plain statement of the claim.” Rule 8 governs every pleading
in a federal court, regardless of the amount in controversy, the identity of the parties,
the skill or reputation of the counsel, the urgency or importance (real or imagined) of
the dispute, or any public interest at issue in the dispute.
