There's such beauty in the cosmos.

This is a view from #JWST of a portion of the Helix Nebula, an expanding shell of ionised gas moving away from a central star that shed most of its mass about 10,000 years ago.

And these smaller structures are cometary knots... each larger than the Solar System.

"West Europeans are shocked because they don't understand what Trump is doing, and East Europeans - we're scared, because we do." - Ivan Krastev with a good summary.

We will say no and will remember as well.
Trump presents Europe with a choice on Greenland: “So you have a choice. You can say yes and we will be very grateful. Or you can so no…and we will remember.”

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Oleksandra Matviichuk:

"I have come from #Kyiv. It's minus 17°C there. We are literally freezing. We are literally freezing in our houses without water, heating, electricity, and sometimes even internet connection. It's not easy, frankly speaking."

So far the "Board of Peace" is Trump, Orban, Lukaschenko and Netanyahu.

Which if you wrote in a satire would be considered too outlandish and sent back.

“Trump's decided to sink the EU,” declares one Russian paper today. Lots about Greenland in the Russian press. But also domestic economic problems: “Prices ready to soar”, Moscow cafes closing & “Russia’s car industry completely dependent on China’s.” #ReadingRussia
"The idea to annex world's biggest island firmly lodged in Trump's head" Russian paper on Greenland.

I wish demise on anyone who decides to do this. Enough is enough.

The founding fathers got lots of stuff wrong in the constitution. But a minimum age for president, rather than a maximum, is right up there.

There's something very sinister about this man going absolutely insane before the eyes of all Americans and nobody dares stop him. Remove him. Take him to hospital. Something.
I wonder if there are any psychiatrists listening to this man's rant. Hey, Murica, your president is ill! He is absolutely sick.

Some perspective: The S&P opened down -1.3% on Trump's Greenland saber-rattling. That's $750 billion of wealth destroyed -- roughly equal to estimates of the value of Greenland.

And so ~in dollar terms~ his shenanigans have already cost the US one Greenland, and we've got nothing to show for it.

Europe may begin selling U.S. assets in response to a new conflict with the US—a move that could trigger a dollar collapse, Bloomberg reports. Deutsche Bank analysts warn Washington’s key vulnerability is living off global financing—and Europe may decide it no longer wants to bankroll the U.S.

I can't believe my eyes. But I do know that this is not new.
Responsibility
Accountability

Republicans, the Republican Party, Republican voters and Republican supporters are responsible for Donald Trump. Donald Trump is responsible for the destruction of world order.

Explain this to your children.

Hey, remember how until very recently Trump was saying that the problem with NATO was that member states spend too little on defense?

Well look at his reaction the moment they started spending more.

What he really wanted was for them to pay him a protection racket, not to start rearming.
Trump amplifies post that says NATO — not China or Russia — is part of the “real threat” to America.

It's so exhausting to to be constantly told by American leaders that the defining policy of the 80 odd years during which the US became the most wealthy and powerful country in the history of the world was a grossly unfair failure for them.
US trade secretary Howard Lutnick really not mincing his words here at Davos: "We are here to make a v clear point: globalisation has failed the West and the USA. It's a failed policy. It's what the WEF has stood for, which is, export, offshore, find the cheapest labour in the world."
