I love it when something goes wrong in some code that deployed to production, and you raise your hand and say “hey nerds, I think I borked this up.” But then your team looks at it tells you you’re crazy and that this thing is completely unrelated and the borkedness isn’t due to anything you did.

My wife asks me sometimes why I don’t just use my phone as an alarm clock, but I will die on the hill that general purpose computing devices do not make good alarm clocks. There are just way way too many ways for them to unexpectedly not do the ONE thing you were counting on them doing.
This is literally why I can’t trust Apple alarms anymore, the ONLY alarm that wakes me up is erly….

Do I know anyone that users their Mac laptop in clamshell mode with an external monitor and has replaced their fingerprint reader prompt with a Yubikey?

I want to use clamshell mode like that but having to type my password all the time sucks.

This is a hell of a talk. I’ve never watched a conference talk and immediately felt an urge to pick up a pitchfork and join a digital mob.

I really do love how intentional he is about enjoying pillows. He doesn’t just flop on them or tolerate their presence, it feels like he arranges just just so like a person would.

Fun fact, that space is still not deep enough for how far my jaw just dropped at how cool this is.

I laugh every time I’m reminded SCREAMING_SNAKE_CASE is a real term that we use in real conversations and it’s a thing that people talk about.

I was finally pressure to into trying Claude at work. I tried it on a React page since I’ve never done React before.

We spent two hours going back and forth trying to center a couple table headers and couldn’t get it done.

We’ve both given up and I’ve lost the will to live.

There is a new autistic barbie out, but no one is talking about her mother, undiagnosed computer engineer barbie about to get the surprise of her life when she starts to argue with the evaluator that these are all normal childhood behaviours that she had when she was the same age.

I don’t need to watch a video of a woman being shot to know that Fox News and the regime are lying about it. I can see their lips moving.

There is political juice in getting on the Fuck ICE train. I think a national campaign can be built around it and talking about all the social sickness it causes and the sicknesses that brought it about.

Don’t talk about unity. Confront the anti immigration ideology head on and defeat it.
This Jacob Frey speech is incredible. "To ICE: Get the fuck out of Minneapolis."

I don’t. These things should not exist. Every dime of money that went into creating these damn things should have gone to funding public transit and bike and waking infrastructure.

It’s not just that there’s no need for these to exist, they are antithetical to a well functioning, livable city.
I want AVs to succeed at making cities safer. To do so, however, AV companies must offer real data transparency and systems-thinking rather than object-thinking

I want AVs to do testing in messy complex cities. But we need companies and regulators to think about appropriate pace of scaling

Read to the top if you’re not already familiar with the Rob Pike AI stupidity (the AI being stupid, not Rob), but I will say this:

“They’ve given their agents full access to a computer environment”

After a very brief search, I think I found the bug.
I thought that at first, but actually that wouldn't necessarily work: they've given their agents full access to a computer environment, so if you don't tell them "never send an email" there's nothing to stop them from firing up a browser and registering for webmail somewhere and doing it that way

This thing is so fucking sexy. Which obviously means we won’t be getting it in the US. So frustrating.

Disagree. We were no longer a constitutional nation when the executive decided it could feed congressionally created departments to the wood chipper on a whim and Congress decided to do nothing about it. We are here because we’ve had a dictator for a year now and Congress has done nothing.
This war and extra-judicial kidnapping is patently illegal and unconstitutional. Political leaders on both sides must condemn it. It’s not about whether Maduro is a tyrant but whether the US is still governed by laws and the Constitution. As if this morning, we are clearly not.
