Congrats to @brookenewman.bsky.social on the publication of her fantastic THE CROWN'S SILENCE. I read an advance copy and it's a devastating analysis of the British crown's role in slavery and the slave trade.
Out today: THE CROWN'S SILENCE

I'm delighted to share that my new book is officially out! It traces the British monarchy's involvement in the transatlantic slave trade and colonial slavery over hundreds of years. Please buy a copy, tell your library, & spread the word. bookshop.org/p/books/the-...

In the midst of the violence, let’s allow ourselves to be inspired by the heroism that is on display here.

Right now, it is not an exaggeration to say, Minnesotans are putting their lives on the line to fight for their city, protect their neighbors, and defend the Republic against tyranny.

Stephen Miller called the victim, an ICU nurse at the VA filming ICE, a “domestic terrorist who tried to assassinate federal law enforcement.” Greg Bovino said he “wanted to massacre law enforcement.” You saw the videos. How can any Republican not call for their resignations?

the video of another person being murdered by the state on the streets of minneapolis shows exactly what people are saying it shows. make your own choices but don’t feel like you are obligated to bear witness to it. reading a description is enough.

I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota has had it. This is sickening.

The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.

What an honor to see THE DRIVER'S STORY selected as a finalist for ASWAD's P. Sterling Stuckey Book Prize, alongside scholars I deeply admire: Edda L. Fields-Black, Erik S. McDuffie, and Christopher Tounsel.

Congrats to the finalists for the other prizes, too!

As a former MNan, I think the Trump admin made a political miscalculation in MN. 1) The aftermath of George Floyd's death created experienced, united action groups that still exist; and 2) the low-info supporters who think cities are scary & minoritized are seeing mostly white wine moms on the news.

"THE DRIVER'S STORY is essential reading for anyone who
wants to understand why Atlantic slavery...endured and expanded despite the heroic resistance of its victims."
