A provocative question for my largely liberal readers: "Has Trump done anything good?"

The flip side is Americans thinking that as a European immigrant, I must absolutely hate America for all the ways it's worse than Europe. And like, do you not realize how much easier it would be for me to leave if I felt that way? There are problems, but I'm obviously choosing to stay.
i think honestly i am just offended that people think they can hate america more than the people who can't leave

As long as it's not Dutch, I don't care what language we all speak.
"Without us you'd all be speaking German and a little Japanese, perhaps," President Trump tells other world leaders at Davos as he explains his justification for desiring Greenland, which he contends "is sitting undefended."
January 21, 2026 at 6:25 PM
I still don't think he will invade Greenland, but if a guy keeps changing what he says every 5 minutes, maybe don't just assume the latest thing he says must be the truth.

The pivot from "Genghis Khan is a political genius for focusing on uniting the many tribes of the steppes" to "Schumer is a political moron for focusing on uniting the many tribes of the steppes" is odd.
The pivot from "Mamdani is a political genius for focusing his message almost entirely on affordability" to "Schumer is a political moron for focusing his message almost entirely on affordability" is odd.

The problem is that on immigration, instead of trying to lead the narrative, democrats just accept the republican framing. Come up with a positive vision and persuade voters of that instead of just trying to be republican-lite.
Th actual Democrats did the things people said they wanted with immigration enforcement, & it made not one iota of difference in how the media & Republicans talked about how the Democrats were soft on immigration enforcement or had a “problem” with voters on immigration enforcement.
The real answer is that Obama's deportations were primarily of those apprehended while trying to cross the southern border. That doesn't actually mean they had due process or were humane— neither is true— but they didn't require visible militarization and invasion of the rest of the country.

I think a number of neurodivergent people don't necessarily understand some of the rules around social interactions and so get incredibly scared of making a faux pas that gets them in trouble. Conservatives frame cancel culture as being an overreaction to faux pas and so that is attractive to some.

Gavin Newsom got into politics initially because a city inspector told him to install a mop sink in his wine bar and he didn't want to. This is the kind of dipshit we're dealing with here.
Californians are NOT going to vote for Gavin Newsom. They're telling you now, with YEARS to go before the election. Fair warning. Please support better candidates, there will be many to choose from.

people gotta chill out about making normative vs. descriptive claims. it’s tedious to have to specify “of course, I do NOT support fire” if you’re talking about a house burning down.

Ok, Ritchie Torres is a scumbag and trying to scan such a codes using your phone would be pointlessly dangerous. But I do want to point out this could help in developing automated detection and tracking of ICE agents. It wouldn't be hard to develop civilian networked "body cams" to do it.
I am introducing the Quick Recognition (QR) Act, which requires ICE and CBP officers to wear uniforms featuring QR codes. When scanned, the code would generate a digital ID displaying the officer’s name, badge number, and law enforcement agency.

ICE should be unmasked both physically and digitally.
