🧵 Why you should include firearms and other technology in your #dnd game...

1. Because they're historical - Gunpowder is older than many of the common weapons in D&D. Rapier, longbow, and even halberd are more recent inventions than gunpowder.

The keywords in the Congressional statement are "illegal orders".
If the order is legal, it just be followed. No one is arguing that.
If an order is illegal, such as shooting unarmed civilians, a service member is obligated to decline.
"Just following orders" is not a legal defense at trial.

As a student of archaeology and a game writer, this sounds fascinating!
A few of us designers have been privileged to follow along while @stoutstoat.co.uk chipped away at this project for the last few years.

It's something new. An interactive history book like the kind you'd maybe read as a kid, but with the combined powers of archaeology and game design.
Game designers bring to life to Scotland's mysterious Picts
Writers and archaeologists also worked on a new guide to a lost early medieval Scottish society.

This is how our government has been corrupted:

1) Donors give huge sums to elect politicians to office
2) Elected officials rewrite rules in the donors' favor
3) Donors make huge profit
4) Repeat

We must get big money out of politics.

It is the root of our dysfunction.

We can't escape our human nature.

So if we want to tame it, we have to address the psychological causes.

Like narcissism, sadism, greed, & addiction.

Then find regulations that close the loopholes. Cap wealth. Prevent monopolies.

Create consequences before people become too big to fail.

But I want people to know that communism didn't fix corruption.

It actually possessed a lot of the same excesses we have today with the current iteration of Trump, the Republicans, & their broligarchy.

Two systems that stretch for opposite extremes and then meet up at the same corrupt system.

With the U.S. we have so many legal loopholes that allow legal corruption.

For decades, the wealthy operated in a second tier system of justice where they could bend and break the laws without being held accountable.

An adaptive system would have closed the loopholes 50 years ago. Ours didn't.

Apparently, there is pie 💿🐴... Eat what you like.
I don't like pecan pie. Pumpkin or sweet potato should be slathered in Cool Whip. Apple, blackberry, and cherry are all top notch, as long as the crust isn't burnt or too thick. I'm not a big fan of cheesecakes. Key lime is pretty good.

I think Pecan Pie is one of those things that is divisive now because it’s just a blob of sugar with nuts on it but to someone 150 years ago who ate shoes it was probably like having 12 orgasms at once

KFF’s @larrylevitt.bsky.social advises signing up now, because once enrollment open ends you won’t have another chance.
You can sign as a hedge, in case a deal is passed, and decide to drop out later if there’s no deal.

X’s New Feature Reveals Why Trust & Safety Work Was Never About The ‘Censorship Industrial Complex’
For the last few years, Matt Taibbi, Michael Shellenberger, and their allies have spent considerable energy attacking both academic researchers studying disinformation and the trust & safety teams at social media platforms working to identify and remove coordinated inauthentic behavior—particularly foreign influence operations. They've insisted that any attempt to study and limit such operations is actually just "censorship" with various forms of cover, whether academic or operational.
