I think it's kind of beautiful that this was Rob Reiner's final line on television

After his tragic passing yesterday, I wrote a little obit/reflection on the magic of Rob Reiner’s cinema. Vale to one of the greats: theconversation.com/in-a-cynical...
In a cynical industry, Rob Reiner’s films taught us the power of sincerity
Rob Reiner, the celebrated Hollywood director whose diverse filmography was loved by a broad array of audiences, has died at 78.

The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

Left two years ago and have felt great about it ever since.
Pretty crazy that nearly all of the EU Commission is still on X even as Elon Musk is literally talking about destroying the EU.

You can leave X. It's really not that difficult.
So what's the outcome?

2️⃣5️⃣ of the 27 Commissioners have posted in the last week

2️⃣4️⃣ of the 27 generally post every week (Albuquerque has never been on X, Ribera is sporadic, McGrath has somehow stopped)

0️⃣ have stopped as a result of what Twitter has become since the Musk takeover

I’ve caught it doing this also. The terminus of this behaviour is not great.
Not wanting to disappoint you so much that it lies is the last quality I want in a computer.

Presenting some new work today on Crime Junkie at the True Crime as a Serial and Transmedia Phenomenon International Conference hosted by IULM University Milan. My first time exploring and contributing to the growing scholarship on true crime podcasts, a genre I personally love.

The big “why do you hate AI?” Thread got comments and quotes turned off, but here’s the main reason I hate AI:

It’s being developed by the worst people on the planet solely to enrich themselves at the expense and labor of the world’s vulnerable populations. Everything else stems from that

We have allowed the lazy, grifting Silicon Valley charlatans into the front door, & in doing so, we have learned just how many of our own colleagues & administrators simply are not interested in the actual business of education. It's incredibly demoralizing.

Thanks so much for your reporting on this, Ben. I just got an email from my campus's IT office triumphantly advertising free student access to four different AI models -- at the same time as we have a hiring freeze, caps on grad enrollment, and a 7% budget cut -- and wanted to scream.

Everyone who knows me well knows I am actually Lilith Fair’s target audience. In high school, my favourite artists weren’t just Pearl Jam and STP, they were also Jewel, Sheryl Crow, Aimee Mann and Sarah McLachlan.

Why This Is Spinal Tap remains the funniest rock satire ever made
Spinal Tap is back. But 41 years on, the original is still one of the sharpest and most influential comedies ever made.

I know we’re all Online (probably chronically) but what truly makes me sad is that this still isn’t the tipping point. And I have no idea what it will take for the average American to wake the fuck up to what’s going on.
