My friend Jon’s voice for the Yule Cat in our Christmas story ‘An all too magical Christmas’ is beautifully suave
Please may we culturally appropriate the Icelandic Christmas Cat?

We're exactly halfway through this year's Christmas story and Alfie, who has taken a seasonal job packing boxes, is about to take a leap into the mysterious depths of the warehouse.

This year's Christmas story is about a man who constantly confuses technology for magic, but then what could be more more magical than a seasonal story delivered instantly, for free, cirectly to your ears?

Whatever this cold / flu is, it’s taken a turn for the worse and I’ve had to abandon all pretence of work and comfort myself by watching this incisive documentary on the political instability in Freedonia

Every year I write a Christmas story and then I lock my friend Jon in a box and make him read it into a microphone. Fortunately Jon is tolerant, professional and, even better, an extraordinarily good actor. But don't take my word for it, listen to this year's story here:

An audiobook advent calendar: a Christmas story released one short episode a day on the run-up to Christmas. This year's story is up to episode 9 and things are getting dramatic in the warehouse.

Every year I write a Christmas Story that we then serialise as a podcast of 24 episodes. This year's is 'The Wish List', the story of Alfie, who takes a seasonal packing job in a warehouse, only to discover that it contains a good deal more than just presents.

I think my first conscious exposure to Martin Parr was the terrific BBC series ‘Signs of the Times’ and ‘From A to B’, where his unerring eye was key to the interested and incisive social observation

Martin Parr has died & this grimmest gloomiest greyest, Sundayest of Sundays is the perfect day to watch Signs of the Times.
All four extraordinary episodes are full of pathos, beauty & humour, life & love stories told through relationships with interiors & objects

Nine years ago Mike Fitzgerald wrote up an extraordinarily fascinating breakdown of the differences between the Tom Stoppard shooting script and the original Jeffrey Boam draft of Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.

One of my favourite things round Rame Head is this gate, hidden by ivy on a muddy, forgotten track and so obviously a fairy trick. One taste of their scones and you’ll be ensorcelled into serving in their tea rooms forever.
