It would be one thing if they died due to market conditions or whatever. But the Xbox and the PlayStation may well die by their own hands, left to rot in a dying market by the greedy hands of a few. Run into the ground by people who would rather extract "value" than make something we WANT TO BUY.

PC is better, hands down, but consoles do serve a really important section of the market. This kind of budget-friendly, long-term solution matters a lot for getting games into more peoples' hands, maybe even kids who only get one big gift every five years. I don't want to see these options die.

I would rather consumers have the option to spend $5-600 on a console rather than put up $1k or more for a PC like I did. I had to save money for four years to get my beast PC. And I would love it if more people took this route, but it's just too expensive if you go for the parts I got.

I built my own PC and bought a Switch 2 because I considered it the best option for multiplatform gaming going forward. In my opinion, it gives the best flexibility with upgradability in mind.

I don't want the best option to be our *only* option. I don't want the PlayStation and the Xbox to fail.

That could *only* lead to negative outcomes. Companies always get ahead of themselves and greedy when they're on top. And if Nintendo has no *real* competition, that would only exacerbate the issue. Things will only get worse for consumers in a future like that. Don't forget that.

I just don't want to live in a world where we have one console maker that matters. Not because I hate Nintendo, I really do love Nintendo, and their products, and their games. But giving Nintendo a de facto monopoly on the console market while on the high of their best selling games and consoles?

Also there's no way the next gen Xbox does any better than 20 million global units, I'm calling it now. The way they've been handling it, it seems like they'd rather let the concept of the Xbox *die* than squeeze even a little less money from customers, or actually make games for the Goddamned thing

And what will they even do with this improved yard warehouse? Will the raytraved lighting be even more shiny? Will those reflections be 20% more detailed? Will the shadows be even prettier? Will the 4K texture updates be even bigger? How much further do they think they can actually fucking go?

It says a lot about the state of the console, and really, about the state of the industry as a whole, that hearing about a new PlayStation *pisses me off* instead of gets me excited. It doesn't feel necessary at all. The PS5 is already a very powerful, capable machine. The PS5 Pro, even more so.

Like it's both hilarious and also extremely *sad* that this console generation never really got off the ground. We've barely gotten notable new PS5 exclusive games, the reason you *buy* a console, and we're supposed to give a shit about when the *next one* is coming out?

I want to bring to everyone's attention, the fact that the list of PS5 exclusive games on Wikipedia is shorter than the list of Switch 2 exclusive games. The Sony PlayStation 5 has been out for nearly five years. The Nintendo Switch 2 has been out for four months.
