I did an interview for Loopcast four years ago on the problems with “terrorism” as a legal category and political insult, and its fundamental role as a citizenship claim.

In the ICE age of NSPM-7, it’s unfortunately more relevant than ever.

its really a competition to grift max between conservative and centrist think tanks - once it became clear that heritage won all the meaningful china policy was swept under the rug

the grift-maxing hypothesis provides explanatory power about think tank politics more than anything else :(
if it was all just a scam, then going forward it is just going to be really hard for me to take seriously the notion of china hawk stuff being in good faith

good case for bringing in an LLM or a more python oriented approach to historical analysis
curious what the outcome will be if we ran an analysis of the national review archives compared to the rhetoric of the slave power/confederacy?

what would be the similarities in ideas, themes, semantics, etc?
why is buckley considered brilliant when most if not all his thinking is just a repackage/reiteration of the ideas of the slave power/confederacy?

like states’ rights meaning what? are you actually concerned about the 10th amendment or it’s really the 14th and 15th that you have an issue with

If only we’d had a sign back in 2016 that Trump had authoritarian impulses that his supporters loved. Like, I don’t know, enthusiastic chants of “Lock her up” aimed at his opponent, or something hypothetical like that.

an extremist legal movement rooted in 19th century ideas of citizenship, white supremacy, and states’ rights w one of its primary goals to mitigate and roll back the reconstruction amendments - today we call this conservative originalism
i think my position on this is that if it happens, it's unconstitutional. if the supreme court affirms it, it's still unconstitutional. it's an illegitimate and unlawful action and should be treated as such.
Apparently Trump just announced he is unilaterally ending birthright citizenship.

I would have ridiculed it as preposterous a few years ago.

Now? Well, watch the Federalist Society start holding seminars on why he’s right, and I am not confident this Supreme Court will disagree.
