tbh it might be easier to accept the decay and eventual death of consensus reality and reliable facts than fight it

maybe what grows/develops out of the ruin will be a better internet?
One of the big tidal forces of the coming years is that the baseline reliability of things you see on a screen is going to decline.

I think this has not been adequately metabolized.

This is one version, but there are a bunch of them.
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

After two infants died, the Louisiana Dept of Health under the leadership of the new incoming deputy director of the CDC, delayed notifying the public for months of a whooping cough outbreak. Instead, he ordered DOH to stop promoting vaccines. Pertussis is currently a national health crisis.
Louisiana officials waited months to warn public of whooping cough outbreak
After a whooping cough outbreak killed two infants, Louisiana health officials waited months to officially alert physicians or do public outreach. That's not the typical public health response.

A third infant has died in Kentucky, KYDPH adds:

“These are Kentucky’s first pertussis deaths since 2018. None of the infants nor their mothers received the recommended pertussis vaccinations during pregnancy or early infancy.”

As Fred Brooks pointed out in Mythical Man Month in 1975, half a century ago, the vast vast majority of any software's life is spent in maintenance.

Statistically almost all of programming is maintenance, documentation, not writing brand new shit from scratch.

My family has Melungeon ancestry and we make a fried cornbread dressing patty that came from kush, a dish slave rations shaped. Recipe was passed down from my grandfather who came from east Tennessee and is a Goins descendant. Thank you to Michael W. Twitty for teaching me this.
A People's History of Cornbread Stuffing
If it’s Southern and it predates Civil War, it means we’re talking about slavery. The fact is that enslaved people’s hands crafted the most popular American stuffing out of old cornbread.

Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.

got to grift harder if you want freedom

or go full heritage
A real pivot that thinktanks and ffrdcs did just before the trump admin and now during while their funding is getting gutted is to jump onto the ai bandwagon which has so much money in it that they can keep their programs afloat for a little longer
Shiva Goel and @techpolicywonk.bsky.social argue that U.S. policy needs to double-down on AI adoption and propose a solution: rewarding colleges and universities that launch AI Adoption Accelerators to promote deployment in their local communities.

The infosec guys at Google are the most left wing people I have ever worked with (except for a few crypto bros). Groups that value diversity, more lgbtq than most groups, and politically active. (My team after working in infosec didn't care about DEI nearly as much)
