If only we’d had a sign back in 2016 that Trump had authoritarian impulses that his supporters loved. Like, I don’t know, enthusiastic chants of “Lock her up” aimed at his opponent, or something hypothetical like that.

an extremist legal movement rooted in 19th century ideas of citizenship, white supremacy, and states’ rights w one of its primary goals to mitigate and roll back the reconstruction amendments - today we call this conservative originalism
i think my position on this is that if it happens, it's unconstitutional. if the supreme court affirms it, it's still unconstitutional. it's an illegitimate and unlawful action and should be treated as such.
Apparently Trump just announced he is unilaterally ending birthright citizenship.

I would have ridiculed it as preposterous a few years ago.

Now? Well, watch the Federalist Society start holding seminars on why he’s right, and I am not confident this Supreme Court will disagree.

why the phrasing paucity when geometry provides such a bounty of shapes to underwrite a certain florid lexical diversity
Used the phrase “circle back” in an email today and now the dirt won’t wash off it won’t wash off no matter how much I scrub

And, of course, let's not let Amazon take up the entire spotlight:

*Hey X and xAI, are you even bothering to file NCMEC reports after you decided to let Grok become the massive-scale deepfake CSAM/NCII machine?

it’s ideological too. the conservative movement is really just an extremist legal ideology that embraces a white supremacist/nationalist understanding of states’ rights in order to weaken/mitigate the reconstruction amendments paired with a rotating set of militias and hype men

:(
yep. i can identify any number of structural issues but at the end of the day the basic problem is the republican party. this has been apparent for at least 20 years. it is also an incredibly unpopular observation to make among “serious” people.
Right.

If you want a good explanation of why the American system of government worked well enough for 200 years and then suddenly stopped, it's because Republicans in Congress suddenly started letting their partisan interests COMPLETELY override their institutional interests

maybe rejecting the 14th and 15th amendments is why we are in this pickle right now?

it’s not populism that took over the movement, it’s movement that removed its mask
why is buckley considered brilliant when most if not all his thinking is just a repackage/reiteration of the ideas of the slave power/confederacy?

like states’ rights meaning what? are you actually concerned about the 10th amendment or it’s really the 14th and 15th that you have an issue with

we need a dashboard tracking how many federal court orders violates a day does anyone have one of those?
The chief federal judge in Minnesota excoriated ICE on Wednesday, saying it had violated nearly 100 court orders stemming from its aggressive crackdown in the state and had disobeyed more judicial directives in January alone than “some federal agencies have violated in their entire existence.”

Among my first reactions to Jan. 6 was that, in addition to the political violence, they had desecrated a sacred space in the civic religion of the US republic.

And the past year has been a continuation of that desecration, in the spaces of collective memory, the architecture and even the websites.

It's also going to permanently harm a lot of people who will survive but with ongoing issues. Some of these people are going to end up blind and are going to have to adapt to that. Some of them are going to have lifelong neurological issues. And it's not necessary.
RFK will be responsible for so many American deaths.
