In many ways, I’m glad my friends can’t relate. But in others, I feel so lonely because no one in my circles share this experience and I can’t stop wondering if it’s my fault I’m in so much debt. Maybe it is??

I don’t think I’m actively suicidal, but I do feel like the only way out of my debt is to die and that I will never be able to pay it all back no matter how hard I try.

Sometimes I feel really jealous of my friends whose families were able to help them financially and who weren’t in debt from the day they turned 18. I hate when I’m jealous of my friends for not struggling like I did, it makes me feel gross and ugly.

Sometimes I feel so frustrated about things outside my control that I just cry. Lately it’s just that I’m poor and I fall into the “maybe if I just stopped eating lunch or buying snacks once in a while, I wouldn’t be so broke.”

Sometimes my heart feels heavy and life feels like a weight, but I am not sad for lack of love. I am so loved.

Unfortunately, sometimes the world sucks and capitalism is killing me. But despite it, I love and am loved. And sometimes that has to be enough to keep going.

I’m so grateful for the people in my life — they continue to be proof that there is good in the world and that there will always be space for love. I’m still grateful to the people who used to be in my life — they helped to shape me into the person I am now.

🪶[1] ʻIʻiwi. They come to my mind first when it comes to Hawaiian birds. (tbh Java sparrows come first, but they’re not native, I think)
🌺[1]ベニハワイミツスイ。英名のʻIʻiwiってどういう意味だろうと思ったら、語源はチュウシャクシギだそうです。確かにシルエットが似ている。
