I think theatre should be like national service. You get called up to do it for two years. It'd improve people's critical thinking, social skills, memory and interest in the arts. And it would be fun

A challenger to Schumer's filibustering of the Ratio feed appears.
Always liked Parker, so this nastiness is rather disappointing.

I’ll always defend trans rights as I have all my career. But I also believe in the First Amendment’s protecting people being wrong.

And that’s where my engagement will respectfully end for the day.
Here's what this is actually about, dumbass

This is just my opinion, but I don't think departments need to change their strategy for reading or grading student work.

Departments need a strategy for responding to harassment and attacks.

The Sanda anime and manga creatively captures the current conservative zeitgeist re: the fetishization of youth, reinforcing unrealistic beauty standards, and limiting freedoms to "protect the kids."

This makes the narrative feel like a deeply personal act of resistance that I've come to adore.
The SANDA anime and manga turn heads while exploring some of the most uncomfortable truths about being a young person on the verge of adulthood at a time when these topics are dominating public discourse.

conservatives basically want to implement the caricature of affirmative action for conservative students. acceptance without meeting qualifications, good grades and degrees without having to do the work.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.
Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?

and you know what? these students should also be judged, and judged harshly for this. running to the admins and state legislators and the press because you got a fairly earned failing grade on an assignment is and should be seen as a mark of extremely poor character. it makes you a very bad person.
the primary thing that TPUSA provides to young conservatives is a blueprint for weaponizing the abject cowardice of university administrators against individual teachers and instructors, and university admins should take a long look in the mirror and think about what that says about them

Games are constantly under attack for doing things other mediums have tackled for decades as if it's some new taboo.

Just watched @charalanahzard.bsky.social video that sums things up more eloquently youtu.be/G-7r9pL0Hqo?...

#Indiedev should be talking more about the freedom of the artform.
why is anyone ok with this

JFC Oklahoma you fuckin cowards. Now every Jesus-freak right-wing student who can't get a passing grade for a bunch of bible quotes masquerading as an essay is going to file a 1st amendment complaint. You gonna suspend the whole Biology department for teaching about evolution? (Don't answer that)

There is also the part where people are so upset by everything that’s going on that they reach for “what is the angry thing to say here” instead of actually sitting and thinking about what information is being communicated to them or how to link pieces of information together in a logical way

Tangential but the fact that Anjali had to add this explanation for her original post is a great case in point about why learning to *read* isn’t just about being being able to sound out words but also contextualize and the diminishment of this skill is part of the literacy crisis
A lot of people are pointing out that this guy is no prince among men and that JPMorgan Chase has done some stuff, and right—that’s what makes it so notable that this guy thinks there will be accountability for this stuff in the future. He believes this is the *strategic* choice. That’s revealing.

Dimon on why JPMorgan Chase is not funding WH Ballroom:
We have an issue, which is anything we do, since we do a lot of contracts with governments here and around the world, we have to be very careful how anything is perceived, and also how the next DOJ is going to deal with it.

As someone who works on the interaction layer of software: it's this.

Stupid trends in hardware self correct after a generation or two, but *software* ratchets in the direction of unusable because designers are occupied with interaction patterns and not whether the fucking thing works properly.
i think it's useful to look at areas where the *tech* has gotten much better while tech *interactions* have gotten way worse. streaming has gotten worse, google search has gotten worse, digital cameras are leaps better. apple's silicone is so good it's threatening their user upgrade cycle
it’s so weird to look around and realize like, tech and media are materially worse than a decade ago
