Arguing about Gavin Newsom is just bluesky’s enrichment activity now. Just drop it in our little terrarium and watch us go.
Counterpoint: if the Prince of Darkness rises from a fiery portal at the Iowa Caucus and declares his opposition to Donald Trump, I will ride to battle with the host of Hell

So like, this is extremely close to explicitly saying Germans shouldn’t be ashamed of the Third Reich, right?

When I was first posting here I used the word "tribalism" and someone told me it was a racist term and I apologized and deleted it because I hadn't even considered that perspective and they were right. What I didn't do was write a 6 post thread explaining why I was right to use the word

I only even felt the need to address this because the guy in Maine who just got his Nazi tattoo covered, which means It’s Fine Now was perpetuating this stereotype online after allegedly doing totally normal stuff like conducting field studies on Black people back when he used to bartend.
The ‘Black people don’t tip’ thing isn’t even true. What’s happening is that you’re getting Read. We see you. Our inklings are survival mechanisms. Why the fuck would I throw an extra bone to a racist?

It’s like how if everybody you meet is an asshole eventually you gotta start doing the math.

That's why the incremental shit is so insane. We have the ability to make these sweeping changes and take swings to make life better but instead we play footsie with the opposition and let them set the terms and beg for scraps
Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

This elitist view that only rich/Ivy/private school kids should study/have access the liberal arts is so deeply ingrained in so many highly educated Democrats’ views (including tons who majored in the lib arts themselves) that they don’t even realize they hold it, let alone how ugly & elitist it is
(3) But the Democrat view is also bad: while it's fine for people at Princeton and Harvard to study Latin and Sanskrit, public higher education is about job training and $ ROI. There is no room for the idea that curiosity-driven inquiry is a good that should be supported by the public.

As somebody that works at a public research university, this mentality is a) the biggest thorn in my side ever and b) actually deeply internalized by the universities themselves. Our black and brown kids are not allowed critical thinking. Only to be widgets in training for capital.
