“Don’t leave me?” she asks, softly enough that if there was any more distance between them she’d wonder if he heard her at all.

But faintly he nods and gathers her ever more closely. He presses the most excruciating of sweet kisses to the curve of her shoulder, and inhales deeply there. Her ears prick in the silence, burning as her desert mouse waits and wants, and she thinks that even his heartbeat mirrors hers.

“The galaxy has always been your oyster,” he tells her, “but you, little mouse – you’re the whole of my world.”

Her blood rushes loud in her ears but she hears it and knows it to be true.

It's electric, white-hot sensation when his canine teeth sink into that vulnerable skin at her shoulder. It's like coming and like coming apart, like the whole of her is born from the points of his teeth and the breath in his mouth. He groans when he draws blood, a choked-off sob into her shoulder, and when he seats himself inside her she finds her home in him.

Her rational mind is far away, where only purple hothouse flowers grow. But Rey's desert mouse is here, and she is in her body. "What?" she breathes.
His paws settle at her hips and she notices her hind legs are trembling, an ache between them that's new and visceral, ancient and familiar. Her mouse knows it, too: her mouse has instincts for surrender and giving over, for settling and sighing in pleasure.
When her trembling doesn't stop Ben clicks his tongue; in wonder or in marvel she cannot say. "Look at you, you needy little thing. Your first proper heat. I can't believe I almost missed the start of it."
Her whiskers twitch; it pricks some part of her that worries and doubts. Can she bear this coiling fire, if it stretches long and languid? "Start of it?" she echoes, and tilts her head to look at him, voice breaking under the weight of her confession: "Ben...I think I need you."

Glowbugs flit through her stomach in a chorus of nervous anticipation that lights her nerve endings and sends them into flight. "I don't know how to do this," she whispers.

Ben shakes his head just so; his soft white fur shifts across his head and the nape of his neck. It's shaggier now that he's let it grow long and unruly—slowly, he's becoming unrecognizable, and perhaps she is too.

With his other paw he lifts her chin and his eyes fall to her mouth: under his careful attention she shudders. Her eyelashes flutter—she can only see Ben and the sky.

"Maybe," he murmurs, caressing her whiskers against her face, "maybe you don't have to know how to do everything, Rey. Maybe that's all right."

As he waits, sitting on the cold floor, back against the wall, Kylo's mind wanders over familiar territory.

(He imagines Rey on her knees. On a throne. In his bed. He tries not to imagine her at all. It's all useless. He wants her to come out with a crystal, and he wants them to stay here searching, forever, because at least she wouldn't disappear from him again.He wants to put his hands around her throat and he wants to trace the curve of her clavicle with his tongue. Rough. Gentle. He wants everything. What he wants has never mattered to anyone, and she is no exception.)

Kylo's comm link beeps, startling him. An automatic update from his ship warning him about the storm. It's estimated to get worse in the next few hours.

He settles his head back against the stone wall and waits.

a man's hand reaches into ice. perhaps to open a secret entrance to an evil ancient place using space magic

Under his palm, the rock begins to slide, rearranging itself into a rough-hewn doorway that gives way to a worn stone staircase descending into pitch black. Rey gasps.

He’s done it. Kylo has successfully led the only person he cares about to a place so tinged with darkness, so absolutely steeped in it, that only a true Darksider -- one who can bear the infernal legacy of the Sith Lords of old -- can open the way and bring her inside.

A long-held breath releases inside him. He's not redeemed, then. Not even a little.

"Tell me," she says, a snarl in her voice, "or I'll leave you here, throw you to the wolves—or whoever else wants you so badly."

There’s alarm in the way his fur stands up, in the flinch of his body and the tracks his eyes trace in wide panic. "I'm a Senator's son," he says raggedly, the words so easy on his tongue that they must be true, and then he nods, lifting up his paw to the place where she covers his pulse, but she wrenches him away and digs the hard knees of her hind legs into his thighs. "My mother is a Senator."

"She must be a dirty Senator," Rey hisses, "if she wants so many credits for your bounty. So much money," she says, close enough now that the ends of her whiskers brush his, her words dry in her throat, "that there must be blood—all over it."
