This is the main thing the resident doctor strike action is about, not the pay - though that helps retain doctors.

If resident doctors cannot get posts, which is the case currently, they cannot progress and may leave our NHS.

Down the line we will have a shortage senior doctors such as consultants
This year, 30,000 doctors applied for only 10,000 training posts. These are highly trained professionals who want long term NHS careers, yet thousands are being denied the ability to progress in their careers. Many are left moving between short-term roles or leaving.

I thought Labour would struggle for their first year in office because of the gap between “what they’d promised to do” and “the tools they’d given themselves to do it”, I just hadn’t anticipated that they would be well into the second year having essentially decided to learn nothing.

Fentanyl. Drug Overdoses, including Fentanyl, are not even in the top 20 causes of death in the USA. Cancer, Diabetes, Covid, Heart Disease all in the top 10, and all have had their research funding cut. They aren't murdering just Venezuelans. However they are killing us much slower.

Just heard the news that the MAGA and MAHA hero Martin Kulldorff, one of RFK Jr’s key henchmen in the push to roll back vaccination, has been appointed to HHS. Lord help us 😢
RFK Jr & his loyal henchmen (the Great Barrington Declaration dudes Jay Bhattacharya & Martin Kulldorff; Martin Makary; Dr Oz; Vinay Prasad) have been successfully dismantling the US vaccination system & achieved the return of deadly vaccine preventable diseases. This is the world they worked for...

“Labour are total bastards. They’ve caused all the problems of the past 2000 years.

Just paraphrasing UK media, including BBC

Does anyone remember this kind of coverage of Tories, when, for 14 yrs, they were lying through their teeth, directing untold billions of public money to their friends etc?

There seems to be an incurable stupidity pandemic - maybe something they read?
Something else that slid by was that registering to postal vote had to be done a month before the vote. I got caught out by that as I was working in Paris although I didn't think we'd be dumb enough to vote to leave. I'd forgotten how stupid so many people actually are. Problem with democracy really

The ISC report shows foreign interference is real and that the UK government "actively avoided" investigating Russian interference. The Tories predictably dodged it but Labour?
I'm wondering if some Labour grandees and donors are involved too?

Starmer: “Brexit vote was a fair, democratic expression, and I .. respect that .. But how it was sold and delivered was simply wrong. Wild promises were made”

If the result was obtained by misselling, then it was not an informed decision and hence not democratic.

This is what North Finchley is up against. Predominately 1 bedroom flats. Will do nothing to alleviate the plight of nearly 4000 children in temporary accommodation in Barnet. Then, this isn’t about housing is it - just meeting the arbitrary housing target set by the gov.

What a wonderful story - and a beautiful illustration of the power of the arts.

Great writing expands our imagination. It helps us to see the world in new ways.

And that has consequences that can never be measured by "average starting salaries" or "contribution to GDP".
Great culture can save lives. Literally.
