After a 100-100 tie the deputy speaker followed convention and cast the deciding vote in favour.

It’s unlikely to get government time so probably won't progress - but indicates strength of feeling on this issue

Government has now - belatedly -published the impact assessment for the changes to skilled worker and care worker visas announced in May.

Impact is estimated between -£2 billion and £-10 billion (central - £10 billion).

The money is gone - into the pockets of Tory spivs - and we won't be getting it back. That ship sailed long ago. But I mourn the lost chance for us to learn something about ourselves and who the country is run for. With every chance we miss our faith in ourselves, and our ability to learn, fades.
