b) as noted, three of these would have more processing power, storage and memory than _all_ the 1.5 million+ Beebs sold back in the day. That's somehow both astonishing and unsurprising

The #teletext recovery computer is back online, running through a tape from (a friend of) @rhys.newydd.net.

Testing video/audio capture in #OBS alongside VBI capture using vhs-teletext. No rare ads yet, though.

The frame drop messages are spurious: capture doesn't seem to be adversely affected.

There are basically two types of comics.

1. Comics about cats who hate mondays
2. Comics about cats who like lasagna

If you get REALLY good you can do both, but don't run before you can walk.
What advice would you give an aspiring comic creator? - 🦝

LLMs are spam generators. That is all.

They're designed to generate plausibly human-like text well enough to pass a generic Turing Test. That's why people believe they're "intelligent".

But really, all they are is spam generators.

We have hit the spamularity.

Ben's playing indie/alt songs of 1995, a year when I came here, formed lasting friendships, and determined the rest of my life. This reminds me of Musiquarium, of singles of the week, and discovering who I was/who the adult me would become. Quite the nostalgia, then, on @noiseboxradio.com till 9
The Wannadies' "Might Be Stars" still sounds ridiculously good fun which is why @rhys.newydd.net selected it. Tune in now to hear both that and a lovely story of his tying into it.

Musically, performing* a million-selling record, alongside its composer, in a computer museum, clad in a labcoat once worn on Top of the Pops, remains one of the most unexpected yet delicious things to have happened in my adult life.

* OK, in my case that's in the pre-1991 TOTP sense. Still counts

Absolutely no shade (shade! Like a sundial's shade!) on Neil for posting, but you can still set your watch by the annual appearance of this, originally drawn in ~2012 by Dave Walker davewalker.com/category/dia... then shamelessly ripped off, first by Innocent drinks then by pretty much everyone else

Technocamps faces imminent defunding.
They play a pivotal role in Welsh STEM education.
They encourage children from all backgrounds to explore computing via workshops and teacher support.
The decision needs, at least, to be scrutinised.

The phrase "trans activist" is goofy because like 95% of the time it's used it refers to a trans person simply existing.

Media, pointing at a woman buying a coffee: behold, a trans activist.

Woman: buying coffee is not activism stop being so fucking weird

Media: trans activist criticizes media

Bemused yet delighted to be given this opportunity. Won't you be in for a treat?
(Frankly, the answer is 'probably not', but it should at least be, what's the word? ...diverting).
Looking forward to, provisionally, the end of January.
A hearty congratulations to @rhys.newydd.net who has won their very own Blender next year!

The first tune we ever played was Legs by The Art Of Noise (attached below) - which we intended to use as a bed after the initial fanfare, but clammed up due to fright instead.

You squarely have Justin and Ben, in order, to blame and/or thank for me rediscovering radio presenting, and this is an expectedly excellent chat, with revelations about both (Justin's dad's associations with Cymru-psych, Ben's means of discovering Frank Sidebottom...) Thanks, both!

"AI Free" needs to become almost like a brand, a logo, a recognisable high watermark seal of quality. Companies should be clambering over one another to attain this prestigious accreditation. Companies that have gone all-in on AI will have to bear the cost of having it removed, like asbestos.
