omfg FFXIV released the trailer for its next patch this morning, and the song is a fucking banner, but now at the end of the day I’m finding out Tom Morello literally collaborated with Soken to write it

The reason the judiciary functions is because judges understand that despite everyone being human beings who hold grudges and have stupid opinions and peccadilloes and flaws, there is a sense that you have to justify what you're doing on more than "because I say so."

This Court is undermining that.

It's not just liberal judges they're doing this to. They're doing this to plenty of conservative judges too; judges who actually spent weeks and weeks poring over the details and with their arms deep in the guts of thousands of pages of documents and days of testimony.

Those judges are pissed.

I don't think the Justices understand the extent to which they are playing with fire. The more they do this, the more District Courts will engage in open disrespect of the Supreme Court, because what other response is there to open disrespect directed at them? That's bad for the Judiciary, period.

As Justice Kagan begins her dissent by pointing out, what is even the point of trial, of fact-finding, of clear error, of standards of review, when the Supreme Court simply ignores every single part of that and decides everything purely on the papers without any real consideration of the facts?

It's good—very good, and very important—that district courts keep issuing these 100-page rulings upholding the law. It must be incredibly dispiriting to see them overturned in a two-page, lawless, unsigned order, but please, keep them coming. They expose SCOTUS' corruption like nothing else.

This was across the road from my house. So many people showed up within minutes. ICE agents circled the block for 45 minutes after they’d been chased off, just to troll. There is no hell hot enough to roast those fuckers.

So they don't even have to pretend "pure motives." They just have to say "this was for partisan reasons, not because of race" and they win. It's disgusting and stupid, but that's where we are.

To be fair, the justices are not technically wrong that the standard here, which the district court reviewed, was that if the gerrymandering was for partisan reasons, it's legal. It's only illegal if it was for race. But that allows the justices to just out & out say "THIS IS FOR PARTISAN REASONS!"
“Yes, yes, we can see all your ‘facts’ and all the adorable little ‘evidence,’ but you failed to consider that none of that matters if we all close our eyes and pretend the Texas GOP actually had pure motives here, you stupid little rubes.”
The dripping contempt the right wing SCOTUS majority holds for district judges is truly a sight to behold every time. When they deign to give actual reasons for their shadow docket holdings, it’s “look at the absolute idiots who keep getting everything wrong!”

Oof. This is the sort of misleading claims Trumpian conspiracy theorists used to foment questions about 2020, or discredit results in WI or MI by talking of "statistically unlikely" odds of Milwaukee or Detroit counts. (Built on a false claim of that 99% means "99% of precincts," which it doesn't.)

One of the reasons we live in a condo is so that we don’t have to do things like yardwork or snowblowing.

But why are the maintenance ppl snow blowing at 11pm?! 😭

As I approach the age my parents were when they had me, I grow to understand while my default memories my parents at home were:
Dad asleep in the recliner with a blanket, newspapers, etc.
Mom reading or sleeping in bed. (my mom worked 3-11p)

Automated text generation has existed for decades. "Dead internet" is from 2016. Markov chain text generation dates to at least 1984. The incentives to algorithmicly generate web text have been around since before 2010. Huge swaths of the internet have been case for seo/advertising slop for decades.
