Hi! Just a quick note to (potential) followers. I don't really post much. I mostly repost and comment on others' threads, so don't expect a lot of novel content from me. Otherwise, welcome!

I thought the rendering I saw here of the "Trump Class" USS Defiant with the pew pews was some niche Star Trek joke. And then I realized its real.

The guy is a lunatic... How many VLS cells can one fit on the deck of a Panamax?

Everyone remembers Saturday Night Fever for The Bee Gees music & dance scene, but it was actually an incredibly depressing film.
everything we see about the 1970s focuses on the flash and glitter of the decade. there isn't much media that centers on the stagflation of the decade and the collapse of the nation's industrial base. (one reason that SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER is still worth watching is it is *about* the latter)

Russians understand consequences.

Ukrainian defenders kill or severely wound about 1,000 Russian invaders every day. Putin hates and fears them.

Americans impose no consequences on Russia. Putin has contempt for their weakness and manipulates them like puppets.

Yuanxin is six years old. He sat in a classroom in our neighborhood. His family fled danger seeking safety and were met with state violence and deportation instead. This is a moral failure. Demand accountability. Support local immigrant defense efforts. Refuse to let this happen in silence.

In a stable superpower, not a fading country shackled to the Confederacy’s corpse, this would be an administration-ending scandal.

Impeachment and conviction of numerous administration officials - including the president - would happen almost immediately.

But nothing will pass at all.

Shame.

The White House has been caught.

The administration inserted a photo of Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, and Diana Ross into the Epstein files and falsely implied it showed them with victims.

In reality, it’s a publicly available fundraiser photo featuring Jackson and Ross’s own children.

not that the present economic picture is rosy, but i do think that popular culture — and specifically nostalgia bait television — is a big part of the reason that our public memory of the 1970s, 1980s and even 1990s seems to miss the real economic pain that marked each of those decades.

This excellent work from the WP should have gotten more attention. Stephen Miller has become a kind of Grand Vizier, directing not only domestic policy but also our military, at least in this hemisphere (gift link):

President Donald Trump’s homeland security adviser, Stephen Miller, had a plan to target Mexican drug cartels. That strategy morphed into lethal boat strikes.

1. First, let's talk about the elephant in the room that he doesn't mention explicitly but haunts the whole piece: climate change is real, we've overshot the goal and the only way to turn the corner is to leave fossil fuel in the ground. To ignore that is to talk about rocketry and ignore gravity.

This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...

The falsely-named “Russian Federation” is a transnational crime syndicate. It is not a state and does not belong to the family of nations. It is wholly illegitimate.

The Putin-Kremlin crime syndicate must not be bowed down to out of fear. It must be destroyed.

Very long story short, what we are finding is that both Trump and Epstein were products of a large scale subversion campaign designed by Vladimir Kryuchkov to topple the West, with Trump as a political front and Maxwells/Epstein tasked with allocating ~$50 billion in KGB funds.
