We're at a point where reducing prosecutions and incarceration isn't a principled leftist stance, it's the only pragmatic way to keep the system functioning at all. This is an unpalatable reality for carceral ideologues so they have to grope around for magical fixes.

One of the things that the “immigration debate” in the UK really reveals is how little people actually know about how other people live. So much of immigration policy fails to work, even on its own terms, because it’s trying to solve problems that mostly exist in peoples heads

While this is sorta true, a lot of yr favs have defended or celebrated Polanski, Johnny Depp or Woody Allen, or cheerled genocide, and to some degree you've turned a blind eye. There is likely no mainstreamish film media that doesn't involve people in at least one of these categories.

I don't think political naivety is an inherent moral failure, but I do think the degree of it required to believe the lib dems to be anything but a malevolent force is sufficient to axiomatically disqualify someone from having political credibility on any issue.
