Head of History. Inevitably trying to bring up medieval history and #SaintsFC into everyday conversation. You came for the pedagogy, stayed for the memes.

Me at various points in the year feeling cheesy: I've already got my GCSEs, I don't need to worry, you need to work hard!

Me now: *nervous about results day*

Bro needed a word count his whole life.
Today in 1792 Alexander Hamilton described what has happened in the last decade.

Weald & Downland Living Museum was so fantastic on Saturday! Literally a time machine. If you're ever in the south it's worth a visit and if you need me I'll be creating a Houses Through Time project for Year 7 ✌️

I find this a really interesting difference between secondary teachers. and all others. I took interactive to include my big TV/board thingy which has elite drawing capabilities. Why do peeps still like projectors??

At the end of term my daughter, T, excitedly told us about Mary Kingsley. T seems most interested in "girls" being in History. So, after seeing @kat-oc-kearey.bsky.social post yesterday, we got going on some proper good stories!

Very enjoyable but parts felt a bit flat. However, from a historical anti-colonialism POV, very powerful (if a bit slightly rough around the edges) but the level of historical knowledge needed is a big reminder of the need for context to access novels lole this. Anyone else read it?

Taking the plunge for 2025/26 with GCSE booklets. 3/4 booklets made since January - and I wonder why I'm exhausted at work...

Just Restoration England to go.

Always got a soft spot for the kids who want to check the Test Cricket scores...

Had our brilliant Leavers' Assembly today. One of the most melancholic days of the year. Seeing them all walk off is quite something, though this year's lot didn't really want to leave. I think that says a lot. #year11leavers

2/4 GCSE History topics now transformed into booklets. Lots of work but the first one went so well. Lots of reading, structured tasks, and embedded exam question practice. And after feedback from very intelligent y11s, they wanted more "space" for their own structure so I've added more blank spaces.

Paper 1 and 2 for AQA History were...good...

RIP 2026 expecting something nice 😂

Whoever said never meet your heroes clearly didn't like History.

For the most part, work is just work and it's just a thing. So, whilst they're kids, I'll just keep telling them gross stories about how they tried to prevent the plague or something and what sort of truth we can make from that as people...

Don't let boring people dictate curriculum! 😂
It isn't possible to design a school system where everyone leaves with the skills needed for the workplace because *they're all going to do different jobs*.

Workplace training needs to be done by employers.
We need our children to leave school ready for life in the real world

To ensure that young people embarking on a career have the skills and mindset employers are looking for, education must be linked more closely to the workplace, writes David Blunkett.

A happy* history teacher after paper 1 for once! Sitting on a field of victory enjoying some well earned comforts.

History Teachers this is absolute gold!

oldmapsonline.org let's you explore regions, battles, rulers from 4000BC to 2010!

It's a great tool to play around with.

Fell in love with cricket in 2019. Could it have been anyone else?

When you get time, chewing over a good enquiry question at GCSE can cut through the monotony of some topics like a hot knife.

Had a really good end to GCSE Germany with the final enquiry, 'How successfully did the Nazis create a totalitarian state?'

Cor blimey the labour of love has arrived! A complete booklet for the final 25% of our Year 11s GCSE.

This is our first big booklet teach after smaller trials in other years. I'm hoping that if we use these tools correctly, they'll be a game changer!

Never underestimate the power of media for History. I fell in love with History; did my dissertation on the 14th century because of watching A Knight's Tale when I was 10. And I almost did my dissertation on pirates because of Black Flag. Mix in Horrible Histories as a teen and...History obsessed.

Off school looking after kids today and timelinesTV still remains top tier for helping with cover. Andrew Chater, what a legend!

I love good narrative history books but I'd also like way more historiographical books. Give me a run down on the arguments around the Crusades over the past 100 years. Give me the academic conflict around a random ruler from the 70s that still polarises historians. I want the history beef!

See its funny, I:
- ironed my shirts
- made my lunch
- prepped my bike
- set an alarm
- argued with a toddler over why she couldn't have her sisters duvet cover at 3am
- told myself many times its school in the morning

And yet I am disassociated from the reality that in 2½ hours I'll be teaching 😂
