What little flying bastards are around at the moment? Whatever they are they've bitten me to death this week. Two nasty new bites every day. Never known anything like it. 🪰 #itching #bastards

AIM: create a nationwide far-right youth movement as they did in America.

ACTUAL OUTCOME: a handful of sad old men marching in Soho against gay people.

That Turning Point UK is reduced to stunts like this shows their attempt to replicate the US movement over here has failed.

And I'm not surprised it failed, they didn't change their messaging or try to learn anything about the UK, they just leant into US culture war issues. #OhDearHowSadNevermind

'When authoritarians seize power, it is crucial to recognize courageous defenders of freedom who rise and resist,' the Norwegian Nobel Committee said as it announced Maria Corina Machado as the winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize

Most here would be against criminalising someone who burned a bible outside the US embassy protesting against their Christianist anti-abortion laws. Burning a Koran protesting fundamentalist laws in Turkey outside their embassy is distasteful but legal.

The lunatic knife wielder is the bigger issue

...and fwiw @sundersays.bsky.social I greatly admire your anti-racism activism, but I have differing views on religion - which is what makes you such an interesting follow.

Great that we can debate these things here anyway, it'd be impossible on X these days. 👍

Agree context matters, and I agree Jenrick is arguably a hypocrite here. I really prefer to follow @natsecsoc.bsky.social on this

(I feel strangely more uncomfortable defending this man than I would do defending the hypothetical US embassy protestor, but I *do* think it is the correct analogy)

At the very least, I'm certain Pratchett himself would have no truck with politicians who *weaponise* these things, as Badenoch does.

Mostly a v good piece. Odd take on 'Going Postal' (which is about crony capitalism but the solution isn't free markets!). And while some people do overegg certain narratives, the inclusion of a 'both sides' fence-sitting quote on inclusivity/trans takes isn't great. #pratchett #discworld #badenoch

"15 years ago, Polish workers came here to find opportunity. Now Poland is growing twice as fast as we are," says Kemi Badenoch.

Any ideas what may have happened in the interim?

tbh, since abandoning twitter (a decision I do not regret), I'm out of the loop with a lot of this stuff...I only discovered the existence of the pejorative "yoo kay" last week.

I've seen the phrase floating around, I assumed it was some kind of movement to get Johnson back as Tory leader....like "we'll ride the Boriswave back to No 10".
