Breaking: Buffalo Mayor Sean Ryan said Friday he plans to sign an executive order "soon" that would ban city cops and other employees from calling federal immigration agents like ICE on migrants.

Migrants, he said, should feel safe using city services.

While the job search continues, I'm also looking for freelance work to keep the wolf from the door (or maybe buy the wolf treats?). Science writing, marketing copy, pop culture stuff, sports, medical/environment, tech, automotive. I've done a lot!

I've run more JSTOR searches than a forever PhD. I read the engineering report on failed welds in the Hyatt Regency collapse. I cross-checked contemporary newspapers to see what the weather was for the 1st cross-country road trip. To research Spam, I ATE SPAM.
I once cold-called a NASCAR engine builder to get his opinion on motor oil. I once devised an objective method for testing the stability of Xmas tree stands. I read the court transcripts of the Manson trial. I found huge architectural drawings of Pompeii in a rare book collection.

Highly experienced writer, researcher, technical writer, business analyst, editor, available now for full-time work.

I'm a world-class researcher. I'll find information you didn't know existed. I'll trace primary sources like a scent hound. Then I'll write a damn interesting article about it all.

If you had "choked to death on a pie weight he accidentally baked into a croissant" in the Ed Grabianowski death pool, I'm terribly sorry. You came very close to a big payout tonight, and I doubt you'll get another shot at it.

Cash donations are always welcome: wscsbuffalo.org/donate/

I will say that the pantry's cash tends to go toward human food staples and necessities (which totally makes sense), hence the lack of pet food. I will come to you to pick up any unopened pet food donations this week. 🤘

Local friends, I've been doing shifts at my neighborhood food pantry, and last week I noticed they only had a few bags of puppy food; no adult dog food and no cat food at all. And there was definitely a need for it. If you have some non-expired pet food available that you could donate, please DM me.

First time I saw The Mothman Prophecies (in a Kansas movie theater), the film broke and burned through just as the bridge collapse started. No one was really sure if it was part of the movie or what, and it was deeply weird and freaky for a second.
But the guy finishes the story of Lee’s sister’s death and then tearfully asks, “What are you going to do?”

Lee’s eyes get real intense and right as he speaks, the film misfed in the projector and the sound that came out was this nonverbal volume-maxed peal of static and flash of total white.

So the Flash famously has a nemesis named Reverse Flash. DC comics also has a character named Cowgirl. Just putting that out there.

What's extra funny is I just had a conversation about this exact topic with some friends recently. I completely forgot that I'd turned it into an article once.
So I've stumbled upon this 10-year old, rather good article about #shadowrun by (I guess) @robotviking.bsky.social and having re-read it I wonder what a 2025 update — featuring the recently Kickstarted (and apparently rather good) SR Anarchy 2.0 #ttrpg — would look like.
