COLBERT, on the so-called “Board of Peace”:

“.. Paying a billion dollars to obey Donald Trump seems a little steep. After all, CBS got to do it for just 16 million."

Former special counsel Jack Smith offered a robust defense of his derailed efforts to prosecute Donald Trump, telling lawmakers in his first public testimony that the president “willfully broke the very laws that he took an oath to uphold.” https://wapo.st/4qFjsSX

Newly unsealed evidence makes it even clearer that Rubio and Noem knew they were targeting students based solely on their political speech and that they knew this policy was unconstitutional. They just didn’t care. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/22/u...

ICE is an explicitly misogynist militia. It recruits insecure men, kits them out, tells them their tough guys, warns that anyone who resists them is disrespecting their authority (and their fragile masculine status) and imposes no consequences for abuse.

The funniest thing about today is the number of urban planning guys insisting history doesn't matter. Why are so few places genuinely walkable & what does that have to do with race riots and red lining?

There's two options here i suppose, either they don't want to break the cycle because they enjoy fighting for their lives, or they're happier with their head in the sand and just want to get back to that

The funniest thing about the number of white men that have said this over & over today is how many think talking about history is the problem not the history.

NEW: Federal agents have detailed a Spokane 10-year-old and her father.

They remain in a Texas immigration detention center.

The judge that is set to oversee the case has a 90%+ denial rate for asylum claims. www.spokesman.com/stories/2026...

The long and the short of it.
The reality is that 2024 was a fundamental test of the moral character of the nation and we failed spectacularly. We’re living with the consequences now. Maybe we improve. I hope so.

"OK, quick follow up, do you realize when you say locking up a five-year-old coming home from preschool is 'making America a safer place' that normal people will think you're an insanely racist piece of shit?"
Q: Do you have any moral or ethical qualms about detaining a five-year-old on his way back from preschool?

Border Patrol Chief Bovino: I've got no qualms about making America a safer place

When this is all over, we folks in driving distance need to go to the Twin Cities for a long weekend and spend our money to help these folks, especially the small businesses, restaurants etc. You can also seek out places to donate now.

House Republicans couldn’t lay a glove on Jack Smith, not just because he’s a serious professional prosecutor but because he never strayed from the documented facts.

Look, I understand holding your nose and voting for something when you are in a purple district, but funding these fucking goons is not that vote. ABOLISH FUCKING ICE
Someone just called me a believer in "purity tests" because I think the Democrats who just voted to fund the president's unaccountable masked goon squad deserve to be primaried.

If your definition of "purity" is that basic, you're beyond helping

AOC: An agency that is attacking U.S. citizens, kidnapping five-year-olds and using them as bait, and privately circulating the idea that they can violate the rights of Americans by busting down their doors—they deserve to be defunded, and I’ll take any step in that direction.

Yeah. Despite being outnumbered Republican voters even on the far Right activist end do this just plain fkng CRAZY thing where they turn out to vote reliably and focus on deliverables that = actual political power (e.g. appoint this specific list of judges) and using their economic weight.
It's really interesting that there are always Congressional Democrats in swing states/districts who have to cross the line and vote with Republicans in order to win reelection. Yet somehow, there are almost no Congressional Republicans whom that same logic applies to.
