This March, I’m hosting a writing retreat in Kenya, a place I was once lucky to call home. It also includes photo classes from a National Geographic photographer & daily yoga. We travel from Nairobi to safari to the seaside on an absolutely epic journey.

A core difference between today’s left and right is that while there is no shortage of vile lefties on social media and podcasts, many of the most vile right wingers are in elected office and in the White House.

If the New York Times was waiting for a news hook to write a long-overdue story about how Trump is mentally unfit to be president, Trump has provided one today with his post saying Rob Reiner got murdered because he was mean to Trump.
Write it, NYT. End the normalization. @nytimes.com

Ambitious conservative women trap themselves: Beholden to an ideology of meaningful work as a male birthright / support as a female obligation; ambition as a male asset and a female defect. There's only so high you can rise in a movement that believes in a man-on-top hierarchy at home and at work.
And people wonder why GOP women are revolting against Speaker Johnson. He doesn’t see them as equals — and lately, these Republicans sound a lot like feminists. @anniekarni.bsky.social

Wealthier families are getting their kids off of screens. Poorer kids are very online. We are radically exacerbating inequality by turning reading, physical fitness, and normal attention spans into luxury goods.

it is an underrated miracle of the 21st century that we really did massively, massively reduce bullying in schools
My experience as well. So far we're 2-for-2 on kids having a largely bullying/abuse-free middle school experience. Not without bumpy spots of course, but light years away from what I endured.

My hot take: the anti-bullying stuff has really worked, which is why conservatives are pushing back at it.
for what it’s worth I got roped into helping out with my sixth grader’s extracurricular thing so I’ve had more recent contact with middle schoolers who aren’t mine than I usually do, and biased sample/biased reviewer/etc but my verdict is that the kids are all right

Counterpoint what if politicians just adopted all of the policy positions I think are best
If you relatively recently started studying politics and think you have discovered a simple trick to generate a perpetual majority party and then win elections forever, and a large portion of the world is just too stupid to see it, I would ask you to consider that you might be overconfident.
