The murder of Charlie Kirk is a horrific act that has left two children fatherless. You don't have to like his politics to understand that political violence is a race to the bottom, that it makes life worse for all of us, that it is what undoes democracies and societies.

In absolute earnest, I think terror of “elitism” has put a powerful vocabulary for describing what’s going on here out of play. These people are vulgar, thuggish, unsophisticated, crass, unschooled, unreflective. They are low in a sense that has nothing to do with income, & it’s fine to say so.
