Finally caught up with Amanda Kramer’s Debbie Harry narrated cyberpunk cinema essay film SO UNREAL. Great insights and proto-digital vibes throughout (and proper respect for Mindwarp, Arcade, and Strange Days.) Inspiring to see it right on the heels of Alex Ross Perry’s Video Heaven. More please.

Shame about Udo Kier, one of the coolest to ever do it. Somehow he once materialized at a 237 party while we were in full swing and pitched me on the idea of rebooting ‘The Hands of Orlock’ which I sure would have loved to do.

Home Alone makes changes to the Die Hard formula that render it hard for me to enjoy. The McClain character should feel overawed. And in theory having Kevin be a child versus adults achieves that. But the thing is: Kevin is a god. It's not just Tom & Jerry. This is some random punks versus Anansi.

Finally saw Weapons - and liked it a lot! Barely worth a post, I suppose, admittedly late to the game and co-signing the consensus opinion but I've already sunk well over 160 characters into this post - 200 now, may as well see it though to the bitter end.

Somehow I still don’t know what these hamburger helper jokes are talking about, seeing if I can keep it going until they fade away.

I don’t think Cavett or Carson ever ended a show with a game of Russian Roulette (in this case Angie Dickinson firing a gun with 5 blanks and one live round at him while blindfolded and tied to a chair)

Happy 89th Birthday Dick Cavett, thank you for making television that would absolutely never be made by a major broadcast network any more, like letting Orson Welles perform a 9 minute monologue on ABC

In 1979 Orson reinvented the talk show in ways they still haven’t caught up to. Imagine if there were a few seasons of this and not just this never-aired pilot?

Thought-provoking piece on Gilbert Hernandez, exploring both the more outrageous aspects of his work (stuff that is often left out of the discussion) and the idea of 'Late Period Work' in a way that applies to most any artist who is lucky enough to have one.

Latesploitation: An examination of recent works by Gilbert Hernandez - The Comics Journal
How do we read Gilbert Hernandez? The question gets harder, not easier, the more Hernandez adds to his body of work, but Greg Hunter takes a stab at answering it anyway.

After his rude, lecherous, and unfunny treatment of Debbie Reynolds on last night’s Cavett, Groucho is banned on our tv for 6 months.
