Long overdue #introduction:

My day job is product management of data infrastructure, platforms and products.

I am here to discuss more about my work in data but also non-work: news, entertainment, nfl, collegefootball, cricket, formula1). Expect regular shitposts, dad jokes and meme retweets.
Two ladies joined our leadership team earlier this year. A few weeks into the re-org, one of them sent a lovely note to me about how she was so happy that I have championed her from the beginning and how welcome she feels.

Made my day and year!
What is the best compliment you ever received? Putting aside whether or not you believed it.

In advance of Black Friday, something to note: getting $xx off still means you pay $yy. If you don’t need that thing, put the $yy away or donate it to someone who needs it.

I don’t know if I would recommend M1 at this point. Great price, but better to get a newer one which will go even longer.
MacBook Air With M1 Chip is Now Just $549 at Walmart
MacBook Air With M1 Chip is Now Just $549 at Walmart
As part of its Black Friday deals, Walmart is currently selling the five-year-old MacBook Air with the M1 chip for just $549 in the United States. Walmart began selling the MacBook Air with the M1 chip for $699 in March 2024. The price later dropped to $649, then to $599, and now to $549. Apple first released the MacBook Air with the M1 chip in November 2020, as one of the first Macs with an Apple silicon chip, instead of an Intel processor. The configuration being sold for $549 includes 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, with Silver and Space Gray color options available. Gold is currently sold out. These are new MacBook Air units — not refurbished or open box. Apple discontinued the MacBook Air with the M1 chip last year, after it launched models with the M3 chip, and it has since updated the MacBook Air with the M4 chip. Prior to being discontinued, the model with the M1 chip was being sold for a starting price of $999 brand new, but Amazon sometimes offered it on sale for $899 or less. While the MacBook Air with the M1 chip is five years old, it is still a capable machine for many average day-to-day tasks. However, it has an older design, and it is the oldest MacBook Air model compatible with the current macOS 26 (aka macOS Tahoe) operating system, so there is a chance that it will not support macOS 27 next year.Related Roundup: MacBook AirTag: WalmartBuyer's Guide: 13" MacBook Air (Caution)Related Forum: MacBook Air This article, "MacBook Air With M1 Chip is Now Just $549 at Walmart" first appeared on MacRumors.com Discuss this article in our forums

I had never tried Gemini Deep Research before (and heard rave reviews from folks), so yesterday I decided to give it a go, asking a scholarly question I already know the answer to, so I could see how its response stacks up.

It’s had ~18 hours to process my query, and this is as far as it’s gotten.

Sure, blocking people after one dumb reply is good, but have you ever tried muting people after one boring reply?

Let's try this again.

Now I'm looking forward to everyone going around talking about how the Chiefs proved the Colts are frauds with a (checks) 3-point overtime win at home.

Two good teams!

It’s an aggressive move to hit a 1/6 which I adopted over a year ago. Love it. I feel I always have a chance of getting a 1/6 or 2/6.

Don’t @ me, I got the Pope on my side.

Why does @microsoft.com #Teams on iPhone show such inconsistencies as:
1. Not showing my workflow in the contextual menu even though it shows in desktop app and web (the flow is triggered on "for a selected message")
2. Show Copy Link sometimes and just Copy some other items on long press

Which is worse -- the political texts and emails asking for more money or Invesco QQQ mailing, texting and calling to vote for something?

Regardless, I want a button that says "we commit to never calling or texting you if you provide proof of doing X or Y".

A lot of people got interested in my technique lol. The measures for my smaller French press means

27 oz/.8 liter coffee maker
6 tbsp / 60-72g coffee (depending on the coffee mass itself - your coffee bean may vary!)
Ground as coarsely as possible!
Lisa texting me & asking how to make French press coffee after she is halfway through making French press coffee 😑
