As Milton Friedman observed, "Turn the Sahara Desert over to the govt & in 5 yrs you'll have a sand shortage." Like most legislation subsidies need a light & indirect hand with an eye on distortions to the large economy. More surgery less butchery...

I know one thing and that is the Founders limited federal govt for 2 reasons 1) to protect freedom 2)They knew govt does few things well. You can encourage industries in indirect ways but this stuff of direct govt investment, just puts taxpayers on the hook1/

Governments subsidize things for many reasons but not only and because "they are not working". He may want to look at how we've used susidies to preserve American industry and balance foreign competition while lowering costs for consumers. He thinks tariffs do that; because bad at math and policy.

Yeah, they already tried it

But maintenance is a nightmare (not lower costs), insurance is expensive (small damages essentially total the car) and depreciation in real (appreciating assets my a***)
