Are they still trying to increase the sales tax to over 8%?

My introduction to Robin Hobb, one of the best writers I have *ever* read. I've had this book for maybe 20 years and I cannot count how many times I've read it. It's time to delve into this world again.

When the crochet project is big enough to touch the floor, she's guaranteed to fall asleep on it.

I finished Jitterbug Perfume a couple of weeks ago. There were some elements that made me like some characters less, but I'll always be a Kudra fan.

I hope all of you get time to travel right from home this year!

If you haven't yet, get a library card!

Libby is a great app you can use with your library card to get #ebooks and #audiobooks.

Same here. I managed to fall asleep between midnight and 12:05, if texts I didn't hear are any indication.

Did you make it by 9?

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's so, so hard to lose a piece of your heart. I read once that grief is the price we pay for loving others. She was clearly loved.

I recommend no fewer than 4 copies of any beloved book. A paperback for traveling and lending to friends, an eBook for reading with greasy snack fingers, an audio book so you know how the characters' names are actually pronounced, and a pristine hardcover to be buried with you like a pharaoh

I love this…

Although Vice President Kamala Harris is directing her motivational words to young people across the country, a lot of us not so young folks need to hear this too. 🤚🏽

"...flowers, magnolias, and the mystery smell of the river scented the atmosphere, amplifying the intrusion of organic sleaze. It was aphrodisiac and repressive, soft and violent at the same time. In New Orleans, in the French Quarter, miles from the barking lungs of alligators, the air...

One of my favorite, if not my favorite, literary passages:

"Louisiana in September was like an obscene phone call. The air--moist, sultry, secretive, and far from fresh--felt as if it were being exhaled into one's face. Sometimes it even *sounded* like heavy breathing. Honeysuckle, swamp...

The right LOVES free speech.

Unless...

You share a poll that makes Trump insecure
You want to burn your flag
You are a drag queen
You say the word cisgender
You believe a religion other than Christianity
You report a story that makes Trump look bad

Sorry.

Turns out, the right hates free speech.

Saw someone upbraiding someone else for having a hobby while the world is on fire, and, my friends:

1. The world is ever on fire, this is today's conflagration;

2. If you don't find time for rest and joy the fire will consume you;

3. Don't let people shame you for being an entire human.

Quite possibly my all-time favorite book. Re-reading for the first time in a decade, I suppose. Not sure where time has gone.

Fair enough, but I'm operating on the premise that "the way things are" are no longer guaranteed. IMO, better to disconnect from the debt if possible, but YMMV.
