Thinking.
If Trump suggested such a thing, notwithstanding that it is a domestic measure of no relevance to us, we’d be hearing about it regularly. But when such a proposal is made here?

The Government's new stated aim is to make it so unattractive for lawyers to take good cases against the State that they will stop. Not bad cases. Good ones. Successful ones. This new rule only applies if you *win* your case. Doesn't that worry anyone slightly?

Objectors will be on the hook to pay six-figure legal costs under judicial reviews clampdown
Objectors will have to foot six-figure legal bills for successful judicial review cases in a new move being brought to the Cabinet to speed up the supply of infrastructure and housing.

Sorry, but Enoch Burke is an unwitting and unwilling comedy gift.

You can’t tweet breaking news about yourself and report you are excellent as part of it. It’s gold!
Have just seen Enoch Burke’s latest self-pitying, lying video. His behaviour towards two extremely civil & professional security guards at the school was obnoxious. The man is a bully. A self-righteous, bigoted, bully. Pathetic!

Ireland, for different reasons, doesn’t look at the EU this way either.
I am not a lawyer, just a historian, but one fundamental problem with the political debate about the EU, especially in English publications is that the whole principle of the acquis communnitaire is not understood or taken seriously. The EU is a framework of rules, not an alliance.

Amazing. What could go wrong. The business geniuses have done it again.
Things are worse for OpenAI, who needs more than $1 Trillion - $500bn in operational costs + $625bn-$800 billion in data centers - to fulfill their obligations. They cannot afford to survive, nor can they build the data centers to unlock NVIDIA's investment.

The idea that Ireland has ever "gold plated" the transposition of EU Environmental law, is causing a lot of people in my world to chortle manically.

Great thread. I heard earlier this week that about 0.2% of planning applications are caught up by judicial review, which seems like a fairly reasonable number that can't really explain the housing crisis after all... ?
Despite the click-bait headline my contribution has been accurately reported in this piece by @eithnedodd.bsky.social unfortunately on the industry side the wool has been pulled over her eyes by the usual self-serving rhetoric

By way of followup a short 🧵
The rate of judicial review in Ireland is "off the charts," the Director of Housing and Planning at the Construction Industry Federation has said

“what is a republic worth if the nurse can’t afford rent?””
"When history judges us, it won’t ask how “agile” we were.

It will ask who we housed, who we fed, who we sheltered, who we lifted up when the lift got stuck.

That’s the only kind of fast that matters."

Hahah I saw everyone getting excited about this weird robot and lo and behold it is both not as impressive as first thought and also a further massive invasion of domestic privacy for no real reason.
Why would someone pay $20k for a robot controlled by a human in a remote location to do things more slowly and clumsily when the median wage for a maid or housekeeper is $33k per year, which is typically spread across 10-20 households?

We keep hearing that our shared reality is at risk from social media, online disinformation etc, and while that's true, some newspaper people columnists have been shaping their own reality for a long time. Too much of what's in Irish newspaper columnists wouldn't even survive basic fact checking.
Seriously when will the pundits move on-the story, the real story, of the election is Catherine Connolly’s amazing win-followed by the story of FFG implosion and a distant third are the spoilt votes-and of no interest to the story is the failure of far right candidates to get nominations #speirgorm
