One of the coolest moments at any show I went to was seeing a band (Me Body) playing a Mineral set for Halloween and Chris Simpson came up and sang “Parking Lot” with them. (This would have been 2000 or so?)

“Let’s go to Portland!” Exclaimed Frog

Frog and Toad looked into a mirror.

“We look brave,” said Frog.

“Yes, but are we?” asked Toad.

Everything matters.

Nothing is important.

I really think it’s both.

there is another characterization of the ice agents/national guard i keep seeing that i dislike for different reasons - that they’re incompetent/not “real” agents or military. obscures that this is systemic violence and the volume of the harm done

Few lyrics will ever be as devastating as “I can’t remember the sound that you found for me” from The Weakerthans “Virtute the Cat Explains Her Departure.”

Not doing the big ink month thing because it stresses me out to have to do something every day, but I did sketch Monkey and his broad shoulders and my tea mug and some squares?
A disembodied cat head peers out of the center of a pen and ink drawing. To his right are the broad shoulders upon which our massive cat carries the weight of the world (or so he says). He is enclosed in a frame, and then the artist drew a bunch of squares above the frame and then a mug that’s maybe on a table and then some vertical hashing that I don’t know… is texture? I had fun. My cat smells horrible right now.

I always think of the kid in Boy Scouts when I was like 12 who came screaming into camp that he saw a demon. It was a nutria.

whenever you see a post like "it is impossible to have a reasonable discussion on this web site, the hateful masses only want to destroy" on the timeline, you know it's because they said something so atomically stupid even their parents logged on to flame their bullshit

I would very much enjoy reading a book about capitulation.

The history of people who decided to acquiesce to an oppressive force.

Where did it lead? What was the journey like?

Surely, history is laden with people who chose this path. It would be interesting to try to conduct a sociological study.

Yeah we volunteer with the equipment crew and are on the booster board. Our oldest (who graduated last year) played marimba and now our second oldest runs sound. The other two will also be in band (trumpet and flute) so we have years and years of band volunteering ahead of us.

Marching band was unloading on a sloped parking lot and the kid pushing the largest marimba lost her grip as I walked up. It swung around and hammered right into the back of my hand.

Probably when our 22lb cat tore my meniscus while I slept. He was sleeping on one of my feet and I rolled over in my sleep. My lower leg was not able to roll with me.

Absolutely. Legacy bands take up more and more space each year and a recession will only exacerbate that. Always a whole bunch of reunions when a recession hits and people start losing their jobs.

Had my left hand smashed by a marimba a month ago, but verified today it’s not broken. Please clap. (I won’t join you because it will aggravate my radial nerve.)

Meanwhile, I’m dumping unsold band and studio merch at local thrift stores…
