So, at this point, the idea is that “defund was bad,” but the police are “unaccountable,” and it’s simply not fair to expect elected officials to address this because the police are scary.

Pritzker should be held responsible for the police nominally under his control; that being said, this is going to be a problem for every politician you try to sell us on as a savior. Because everyone of them, and many of their supporters, refuses to actually confront what the police are doing.

Re: Portland. I lived there is ‘85-‘86. As anybody from that time can tell you there was a lot more trouble to get into around town and I was often part of the trouble. So, when my band played Pioneer Courthouse a couple years back, after the show I walked EVERYWHERE downtown.

If you’re wondering, the protest was completely peaceful, & most of the protesters just looked like young people live-streaming & taking photos of the situation while chanting & singing. Remember when JB asked people to film what was going on with ice? Well, he’s getting his wish—this is part of it.

Harrell isn't the first mayor to celebrate every (male) sports team while all but ignoring local creatives, but the ratio of sports sports sports to, like, mural artists who help Harrell's mission of preventing graffiti is off the charts in this administration.

Just got an email from Bruce Harrell's campaign about the Mariners.
I know it's heresy to say right now, but imagine Seattle having a mayor that got fired up about the arts, or rallied to save longtime venues, or talked about a great show they saw at a club or theater, or celebrated a local author.

the correct response to scaremongering about trans kids in sports is:
1) kids should be able to play sports with their friends
2) you want the government inspecting yr kid’s genitals? asking for chromosome and hormone tests? seems messed up!
3) sports governing bodies also already figured this out
