I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Something I still can't figure out is how a reference to the "USS Hiroshima"—which does not exist—made it into an official DLA procurement doc. My total speculation is it was a dark joke meant as a placeholder that slipped through and got published.

This is called “chain refoulment” and it’s illegal under both U.S. and international law. And the State Department and ICE know very well what Ghana is doing and simply don’t care.
ICE deported a woman who owned a home in the US for 30 years. A judge banned ICE from deporting her to Sierra Leone where she had been tortured, so it deported her to Ghana, which kidnapped her and sent her back Sierra Leone anyway. ICE is part of this illegal conspiracy.

“Trick” is another extremely misleading anthropomorphic term we should probably all stop using in reference to LLMs (used here by Anthropic, not the Verge, to be clear)
Anthropic says Claude Opus 4.5 is "harder to trick with prompt injection than any other frontier model in the industry" but isn't "immune" to such attacks (Hayden Field/The Verge)

NEW: ICE has finally released post-shutdown detention data. The latest data reveals that a full 40%(!) of people arrested in the interior and held in ICE detention have no criminal record; no criminal charges or prior convictions. That is up from just 4% when Trump took office.
