The 2024 edition was my favorite scientific meeting last year, lots of time to socialize, a nice dinner together, hearing about cutting-edge research from early career metascientists.
The full program for the PMGS Meta Research Symposium 2025 is online: docs.google.com/document/d/1... If you are interested in causal inference, systematic review, hypothesis testing, and preregistration, join is October 17th in Eindhoven! Attendance is free!

Okay everyone, things are getting serious. I’m going to teach research methods again, 1st year psychology undergraduates. What would you cover with respects to philosophy of science, the research process etc.? I’m not very happy with the textbook stuff so I’m open to all ideas!

Very sad to learn that Helen De Cruz, who had been a constant online presence for me on Twitter and then here, passed away. Read her last blog post. A little gem on what we leave to others.

A recent attempt by psychologists to create 'consensus' on smartphones and social media was a huge failure:
www.newscientist.com/article/2480...

The lesson here is that our field needs to learn how other disciplines actually reach consensus (much more slowly and inclusively!).
Attempt to reach expert consensus on teens and phones ends in argument
There are a range of competing views on whether smartphones and social media are harmful to adolescents, and an attempt to settle the debate has instead sparked more disagreement

I just finished this incredible book and realized how little I truly understood about the replicability crisis and the story of priming. I think it is a must read for researchers. 📚

Preprints are a form of research transparency; a way of uploading, describing and disseminating your scholarly article prior to peer review.

What's your experience with preprints? What other transparent research practices do you do?
