It’s 2026 and dorks are still trying the “please carry two phones: one you like and are familiar with and one that is a less useful piece of shit” grift

If you like DFW, it’s worth giving it a shot. He was never one “my guys” so it always felt like a dubious thing for me to attempt. It did teach me not to commit to books I don’t enjoy. 20ish pages and if I’m not bought in I’m out.

It’s a slog, in my opinion. I’ve tried three times to various degrees of success but always peter out. Parts of it are great. Other parts feel like homework. It’s the unevenness that always made me put it down.

People can come to games for a variety of reasons and it’s good that the medium has never been more diverse, but I also think this is spot on.
The interesting, sophisticated thing about games is not whether they can tell stories as well as books or movies (they can’t) or float shocking themes as well as fine art (honestly, who cares).

It’s the manipulation of systems, the play of contingency, the brokenness of machines.

I do not care about anyone’s Star Wars rankings but I do think sensible people agree that there is more “bad Star Wars” than there is “good Star Wars.”

I think a lot about how fast smartphone tech evolved, matured and now seems stagnant in many ways, but it simultaneously feels wild that we are a year away from the 20th anniversary of the iPhone reveal.

I got to see the remaster in an IMAX theatre last year with a bunch of first timers. The defibrillator scene was one of the best theatre reactions I’ve ever experienced: groans followed by uproarious laughter.

I know this is a factor of my age and just how much I played video games on the Xbox and 360, but Halo on PlayStation feels like a real fucked up moment for this industry

I was at the Rays series to close out the season. Hadn’t been there since the last round of renovations and was surprised at how much not a dump it is.

Where I will agree with him is that the city will probably get some of this wrong! The difference is I think that’s a worthwhile trade off to doing nothing. This scale of development is hard! It’s easy to do nothing! NIMBYism is cowardice manifest. Fear of change, fear of others. Sad little people!
