300 word prompt given today was "are any three little words more romantically devastating than 'not like this'." And my mind leapt to a horrible, but real, place I have avoided writing for #bladesong

A hard won serenity fell over the Crystarium a night now, when the sky was dark and the distance was quiet. The only thing that filled it now was the soft thump of a tail against wood and the slow intake of air as Orion laid with his head against Granson’s chest. The novelty of stargazing was still fresh to the other man and Orion was happy to oblige it when it meant a peace like this. Nothing at all to do except rest and admire.

“Rho.”

Orion lifted his head up, crossing an arm under his chin to rest on it and meet Granson’s gaze with a warm smile. “Yes, my blade?”

There seemed to be a thought caught in between Granson’s teeth, stuck in his mouth. He swallowed once—a vain attempt at ridding it—and exhaled with a relent that made Orion’s stomach turn. With the sliver of his forehead mark making itself known, Granson shook his head in dismissal of concern. Pushing ink back from his face, Granson held the night sky a little closer.

“I would, you know,” He started, voice quiet with an ache to it that made Orion’s heart jump to race. “If I could follow—if we could stay together, I would ask—”

“Not like this,” Orion breathed out to interupt, eyes widening with the recognition he wished he didn’t have. It would have been nicer if he didn’t and then he could hear him finish the thought, but he couldn’t do that. “I don’t want to hear you say that to me. Not like this, not when you can’t. Not when I can’t say yes and have it happen.”

Winding his eyes shut, Orion let his head fall forward onto Granson’s collar and a whine fell from him like a dying breath. “Because I would… I would say yes.”

Granson stroked a hand back through Orion’s hair as his eyes fell shut in a heavy disappointment. “Just not like this.”

Just want to remind everyone that little moments of joy are so important right now.

For instance, my cat does not understand the human concept of kisses beyond Incoming Nose = Love. So every time she’s happy, she’ll smush her face or shove her nose into ours.

I'm just rotating the Emcee in my head right now. I usually am. I think my favourite I've seen (on video) is Mason Alexander Park at the Olney Theatre. Inspiring. God, I love them. I love the Emcee. I love Cabaret. Our show closed 5 months ago, and I'm still obsessed.
