Exactly. Oxfam predicts the world is on track for its 1st trillionaire, while it could take more than a century to eradicate poverty, as things stand. We desperately need an economic/political/social model based on giving all people a fair deal, while preserving the planet’s diminishing resources.

@zackpolanski.bsky.social @greenparty.org.uk maybe you could publish some UK related wealth inequality facts and figures before the holidays. They'd make great talking points when misinformed relatives and friends start banging on about "immigrants".

Or alternatively people will rise up against the filthy rich as they did in the French & Bolshevik Revolutions because there comes a point where the only thing that makes life worth living is the possibility of destroying your oppressor.

If you look at history, this level of wealth inequality is going to have to lead to something like WW3.

Although I have a suspicion that this time it could be a truly catastrophic market crash that ostensibly requires a reset of the entire global economy.

Not sure it would be any better.

And now the wealthiest 0.001% can buy entire armies to protect them and 'their' loot.

Buying up governments is a nice option for them to have, but they can skip that altogether and go after people directly.

It's beyond the pale.

I'm 100% with you on this

The problem is the limitless grasping of the wealthiest, not asylum seekers escaping war and persecution, not trans people wanting to use the toilet or get changed to do some sport.

It is greed being enabled by spineless politicians.

Hurry up and get elected please

I read that Rishi Sunak "earns' 7 million per WEEK in "residual income" ..that is, money that flows in simply because he's rich.
We could tax this guy at 6 million a week, and he'd STILL be getting a million richer every week!
TAX THEM.

This is misleading/lacking context and it still is every time it gets recirculated. The income inequality (mentioned in the article but not in the headline because the numbers are less dramatic) is much more meaningful.

This is what makes me a bit uncomfortable with the 1% discourse. GPs are in the top 1% (and probably London Assembly members ;)).

But that's not who we're talking about. It's not the 1 in 100. It's the one in a 100,000.

This is obscene.

That others in politics can’t or won’t say that this is obscene hits at the heart of the problems we face.

We are the 99.999%.

Tax the super rich.
