the Nobel Peace Prize committee going “yeah we felt like recognizing opposition leaders who resist authoritarianism was important right now for whatever reason” somehow feels like Trump won -1 Nobel Peace Prizes

like he somehow has one even less than he did before, despite never having had one

Let’s love each other loud enough to spite the devil, friends.

Damn Yankees ends with a couple loving each other enough to beat a contract with the devil, and this is staged via a reprise of a love song that they sing SO LOUD it drowns out the devil’s complaint. I’m not saying this is directly relevant to current events, but I am not NOT saying it.

It’s wild to come out during the intermission of Damn Yankees and seeing my timeline full of baseball fans. Truly, this is the new immersive theatre.

Someone is sitting in the row in front of me, absolutely DRENCHED in cologne that I can smell clearly through my mask, it’s going to be a long show.

I’m a simple woman, I see Gospel at Colonus, I stop and take a Moment (as so many other audience members all said MORGAN FREEMAN? as they pass by).
Photo of a large display photo of a scene from Gospel at Colonus, with Morgan Freeman at a podium, and a cluster of other Black actors at his side, one man standing with a microphone.

It took me so many tries to understand the various ways Chronos was one shotting me and how to avoid them. So many!!

The ballet is doing one of my absolute favorite short pieces that I have wanted to see again for years but it’s at the Kennedy Center and I just. I’m so tired.

I think you must have been the person who introduced me to Catonsville Nine- there is such a history of activism in the Catholic church worth knowing that we were never taught in my 13 years of Catholic school, and it's a gap I need to fill.

We are in the weeks of the year where as I leave my house in the morning and drive to the end of the street, the angle of the hill meets the angle of my windshield meets the angle of the sun and they all conspire to completely white out the windshield for maybe twenty feet? It’s TERRIFYING.

Ok, INTERESTING, good to know!! I wish that idea excited me more dramaturgically but also, people finally getting to fuck around a little with Beckett is exciting.
sadcypress.bsky.social
And aren’t there still stipulations in play that you have to essentially recreate the original staging when you do Beckett as well? So that it’s even more the OG experience and less about a particular interpretation (though of course you could do it well or poorly in the execution, as with all art)

I'm so glad I watched them BOTH again, what an absolute trip. I think I had mp3s of both songs and they would randomly come up when I had my music on shuffle...

Holy moly, I forgot about these and they made me SO HAPPY.

Okay, apparently I just needed to whine about it. 🫡

I have reached the point in playing Hades 2 that I think I might actually need to learn how to play video games well to be able to beat Chronos in round 2.

Also Brutus’ pants fit SO WEIRD, I was distracted the whole night.

And Brandon Carter is so good! And it’s so different when it’s history that’s less than a hundred years old vs minimum 1600 years old. And it felt like they wanted to be so clear this was its own world, until the very end when they invite real world Malcolm X to the stage, which changes things!!
sadcypress.bsky.social
I keep picturing a dial where 1 is Julius Caesar and 10 is new play about Malcolm X and that dial just kept on turning and adjusting all night.
sadcypress.bsky.social
Right now I am mostly mad at myself for not knowing more about Malcolm X to be able to better track the adaptation of the politics.

Excited to make it out to @folger.edu and very grateful for their continued masking-required nights during the run of their shows.

Closed the show, and now it’s time to… go see someone else’s show. Heigh ho the glamorous life.

I cannot for the life of me crack the second phase of his battle, my “get god mode all the way cranked up and smash the buttons til everything dies” way of playing is simply not sufficient!

Sitting out the last of my three choir concerts this week because of the coughing attacks from this dumb cold. Truly the worst timing, but at least it means I can stay in for the night and try to recharge my utterly depleted battery.
